I think psychology is catching up a little. We're all just bundles of electrical wiring and chemicals. However we can redo our own wiring sometimes. Having had a thyroid problem I know how drastically that affected my personality. I was extremely impatient, irritable and prone to anger outbursts when hyperthyroid. When I was hypothyroid I so mellow nothing could phase me.

I just reread the beginning of the thread -- there were a LOT of alternative suggestions for the OP. And I have no interest in converting people. You found something that works for you. GREAT!

I worked with hypnosis for many years, and with many associates in private practice, some for weight loss. Some were successful with that. Many weren't. If that's your aim, I think you need to find a hypnotist who understands metabolism. Someone trying to make you less hungry, or make you avoid fatty foods, is obviously not the answer. Often, hypnosis as therapy can have many positive side-effects just as any internal upgrade can,...

Annika's blog translated properly into English I've been struggling with using Google translate and my imagination to follow Annika's blog and now someone is very kindly making a proper job of it. Some years ago when he still worked for the NHS my GP Peter Mansfield who had take a stance against the triple MMR vaccine, opened a new surgery but unfortunately was unable to get direct access to the main road, the week after he...

Your concerns are reasonable. I've had them too for a long time. There's a thread from last week that addresses a little of this: Go Organic or Don't Bother?: General Low-Carb Forum In terms of meats, if you've got the freezer space for it, definitely look into local humanely-raised livestock or mail-order from a pastured meat farm. I'm lucky to live in an area where I can get certified humane meats and pastured eggs...

Lovely compliments from lovely ladies but, come-on ladies, what about
Bergetta's thread; please, let us not abandon it. Can we provide Bergetta
with the support and advice she so desires and probably desperately needs?
The variety of medications prescribed to her is of some concern which, of
course, is beyond our specialist interest to dieting. Certainly, if she
were to ramp-down the ...

Great article! Thanks for posting this!
The fruit juice thing is relatively new and I wonder if that accounts for the fact that you often see young mums in their 20s and 30s who are already quite overweight, especially around their midsections, with their own mothers, who are in their 40s and 50s, sometimes 60s, who don't have the same weight problem. I am not talking about the celebrity ...

Look into the Paleo diet, I think it is excellent for autoimmune issues and especially gut issues.
I had an autoimmune condition clear up since going paleo.

I'm fascinated too, but by all reports, this one is not for home cooks. Keller himself says he wrote this book for professionals only, and if you saw his book The French Laundry, you'd see that his idea of what home cooks can do is very expensive, idealistic, and time-consuming (like 18 hours per meal). In that book he says he adapted his recipes for home cooks. There was a website called...

Well, middle age is the time most people get thyroid issues. It is an autoimmune disease (unless it's caused by lack of iodine). Personally I feel there's something environmental causing all the thyroid disease (Hasimoto's and Graves). Whether it's a lack of something like D3, or something like that jet fuel additive that's in our water. I also know a lot of people go into remission when ...

I love knowing that I can eat healthily, eat nutritiously, and lose weight while feeling satisfied, something that I don't feel off-plan unless I'm stuffing my face with all kinds of junk. And, I don't have to be hungry!
Of course now the new symptom of INSOMNIA has hit ... forgot about that!

I think individual differences play a big part -- it depends on your condition and fitness.
I'd get a good "learn to run" book like those by John Bingham (The Penguin) and go from there -- listening to how YOUR body responds to the exercise.
