Fedora 12 release comments
Published (2009-11-20 22:34:00)
Hi guys, i am an ubuntu user for about two, two and a half years now. I think it's the best distro and helped me get into the linux world. It's the easiest big distro out there. But since 9.04 i had big problems with kernel panics, kernel crashes and crappy wireless function. I just installed fedora 12 and everything is working perfectly on my aao a150. It's slower but ... The thing is that i want to auto login and i don't...

does it have an external video card? Are you plugging the monitor cable into that instead of straight into the motherboard?

At their Black Friday website, it says that the 751H with 2 GB ram with 250 GB HD will be $249.99! I have to believe you'll have to be in line VERY early to score one at that price (they'll probably only have one or two per store. http://www.blackfriday.info/sales/radio ... ay-ad.html

Gaming on the Aspire One 751
Published (2009-11-18 22:38:00)
The Z520 + GMA 500 netbooks are much slower at 3d graphics than the N270 + GMA 950 ones. So you should expect (much) worse performance than say an A110. The CULV + 4500MHD netbooks are about 20-30% faster than N270/GMA 950. Netbooks with an Atom N270/N280 + Nvidia ION are the fastest at 3d graphics, but I can't be sure how much exactly. It looks to be 40-80% faster than CULV/4500MHD according to notebookcheck. A CULV + ION netbook would...

How to set boot order for 751h
Published (2009-11-20 22:26:00)
As soon as you power on your computer, tap the F2 until you enter the BIOS. Find where it says F12 Boot Menu and enable. Save and Exit. Tap F12 as it powers up again. You should now be able to choose where you boot from.

Wired or wireless, shouldn't make any difference; either the files arrive intact, or they don't. Aside from downloading the installation image on a wired connection, all of my updates to 9.04/9.10 have been done wirelessly.

Morning Jerry. jerryt wrote: Mount your drive in another AOA110, and recover the data. I'd love to. The other lappie was fine to dismantle as I knew it wasn't going to work anyway. Incidentally I put it back together again, seemingly OK, though I have yet to boot it up. However, I wouldn't like to risk a fully-working machine in case I damage a cable or incorrectly do something else. I just don't want to risk it. What other...

There's no user-changeable FSB setting in any of the BIOS versions I've seen. It's possible that the chipset itself is declaring it's native speed at 1240 MHz (much like memory modules declare their default speed to the BIOS). Acer or Intel...

I guess we will just have to wait for adobe to make flash 10.1 support the gma 500 with the newest drivers playing hd video content on the internet is imo one of the only thing missing, to make this small pc really good.

So strange indeed, since I own exactly one of your AAO models (AOA150-aw) and wifi worked out the box without any kind of modifications since the stock kernel comes with the ath5k drivers. May be you can try to load that module manually by typing 'sudo modprobe ath5k' and see if it turns wifi on.

Sad to hear, but have you checked the temperatures of your Acer? I use this tool: http://nodadev.wordpress.com/pc-projects/a1ctl/ While using it in the garden, my 751 get very hot sometimes 70+°C but it never freezed and my CPU is overclocked. Remember, this hardware runs up to 2.0ghz in a Sony Viao P without a single fan. Maybe you have to return your 751 and get a new one

Well I've had an email from Acer customer service that confirms the 751 processor runs at 1.22ghz. This being the case I can only assume that Acer are underclocking the Z520 which has an official spec. of 1.33ghz. Explaining the confusing specs on different websites. Anyone confirm? Can I overclock it back to standard processor spec in the BIOS? I really like the 751 but there is a common ...

My problem is that i tried unr 9.10 since i'm an ubuntu fan but i ran into big problems. Fresh install with ext4 and the aa1 freezes and the cap's lock led is blinking (some times not every time, and mostly when i download something through the wireless card). The same problem with 9.04 only much fewer times. Mostly when i download something in high speed. Second lots of apliccations crushes ...

Hi, just a query - are you sure the link you posted was for the netbook remix? It seems to be the desktop version, the netbook remix is located at: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-netbook-remix/dai ly-live/current/ . That is showing Karmic 9.10 NBR. (I'm downloading it as we speak)

I just finished a dual boot F12 XFCE / XP installation. Some initial observations: - I had trouble getting a usb flash drive to take the Live .iso. I finally reverted to burning the .iso onto a CD and doing the installation from an external usb optical drive with no problems. - I get an Error shortly after start up: "A crash in package kernal has been detected." This may possibly be related to a ...

I have installed Moblin V2.1 onto my AA1 110 SSD. All working well, using it to write this, approx 20 second boot time and even the WiFi LED works. MP3 playback does not work. I installed gstreamer codec via the Moblin package manager but still not working for me. Hope this helps RiK
