Oh my!

So, uh, do you think next year we'll need to hire some ex-Secret Service agents to keep an eye out for suspicious suitcase-toting Colston Bassett eaters? Mmmmmmm, could be!

What to do in Paris in January?
Published (2009-11-29 23:15:24)
We also visited Chartres for a day during an October 2007 trip to Paris. It's about an hour away by rail. If you can manage to find room in your budget, try to arrange a private tour of the cathedral with Malcolm Miller, an internationally renowned English-born scholar who has a deep, intimate knowledge of the cathedral. He conducts public tours twice a day, but an hour with him one-on-one is a much richer, more enlightening experience....

Cranberries trivia
Published (2009-12-01 05:33:59)
You NJ people probably know this but my son just informed me that NJ is full of cranberry farms, some of them in the middle of the Pine Barrens. Quite a site from the air, apparently... all that green then a big patch of pink. :) I don't know where I thought they came from, but I would have never guessed NJ.

Venetian DSE Trip Report
Published (2009-12-01 03:09:51)
Chandler, all is not well with me I'm afraid. 2009 has been the worst year of my life but it's soon over so maybe things will get better. My mom passed in March after a long illness where I was her caregiver. In Oct just as I was finally ready to move into her house, after much decluttering, my 58 yo brother had a serious stroke. He is still in a rehab facility in Edison NJ. He can't move his left side but he can communicate....

I met the OTHER Ellen
Published (2009-11-29 12:09:48)
After about 14 years of being on AOL with Vo2H2o (aka another Ellen from Las Vegas)....we finally met in person! We had lunch together on Friday in Anguilla at Smokeys. It was like we knew each other forever. These forums really bring people together. It was great to finally meet and put a face to a name. By the way the island is very quiet. Weather has been hotter than I've ever remembered it this time of year. Not much breeze. Enjoying...

Restaurants

Leaving next week and just wanted to get some ideas for some not-so-expensive restaurants. Planning to go to Veya's and TT, but can't afford Blanchard's, etc. this trip. Looking forward to your ideas!!! Thanks so much Cindy

Here's our 2009 menu: Melick's, by the way, is a tenth-generation family produce farm, not too far away, that vends at various of our nearby Spring-through-Fall farmers' markets. They make great pies, one of which will accompany Joy's not-quite-traditional pumpkin pie. And, Irene, I agree it's a day to be thankful for time with friends and family. Larry printed our...

I was in Paris a few years ago in the second week of January. Scant lines
at the attractions, which are open, great winter food, a lively music and
theater scene, and no crowds. The locals were very friendly wherever we
went. Went to Chartres by train for the day, and had the cathedral
practically to ourselves, plus a lovely lunch across the square from the
church. Other venues probably open and ...

We're going Saturday and alternating between expensive and less expensive restuarants. Picante is definately on the list and Tasty's for the
tasting menu. If Jacques is open in the old Bananas building, we'll try that one, too. Lunches at Johnno's and Palm Grove (Nat's Place at
Junk's Hole) on the nights we go to the more expensive restaurants. Klassik Cafe and Smokey's are also good choices...

Toni, Sorry I have no answer for your friend. I'm am pretty confident in my answer that nothing is "fairly inexpensive" in any
good part of NJ. I suppose that it is a subjective term. By all means let Burt know. He lives up that way and will be a great resource for you.

We must have been there at the same time. We were at the Hilton on that
Tuesday and Wednesday for breakfast for the SEMA show. Eddie mainly did the
breakfast and I gambled there. The SEMA Show is a hugh convention.

Really good show if you like Jay Leno.
Day 2 sounded like a good one! Jay Leno... I'm glad you enjoyed his show. I saw his show once and liked it a lot.
This year JL put on several FREE shows in the Detroit area for unemployed auto workers. As you know, he loves cars.

Another Ellen meeting! What fun !!!!!! How many Ellens does this make???? Four? Five? Six? The AOL AXA forum(RIP) brought so many of us together...at
least online. I'm not an "Ellen" but someday Noway you and I will meet up. Wonder whether it'll be in Florida or AXA?
Glad you're having such a great time in Anguilla. Weather sounds wonderful.

I am not sure sure I agree with the idea it is a great year for nouveau. We had some George DuBoef last night and it tasted a little "rough." Was
going to have it on Thanksgiving, but the guests preferred the Santa Lucia pinot noir from cenral CA., and I must say that was a lovely wine. However I always
love the tradition and it would be late fall without it.
