Polly, we live nowhere near a swamp. Matter of fact, we're not even rural. Sort of getting toward rural, but really not there. When we first moved into our house, there was a house down the street and around the corner that had a port-a-john in the front driveway. It appeared that the house in question probably didn't have a functioning septic system and that the port-a was their only .... outlet. Everybody who came to our house...

I use the sun too - when there is some! but in the back garden. I've
never seen laundry drying in a front garden which is where this is.
Looks messy. Back gardens usually have a fence or hedge so what you do
in there is private and doesn't interfere with neighbours.
I have no objection to drying washing in the back garden, but wouldn't
like it if my neighbours used their front gardens...

The fabric section at ours closed quite some time ago. One day I went in and
it was just gone! They still carry some notions, sewing machines, fiberfill,
yarn, and that kind of thing, but no fabric at all. I seldom bought fabric
there - primarily because we have several quilt shops close by - but I still
enjoyed looking when I went in, so I miss it from that standpoint. We're
