The welcome screen only comes up on restarts, when logging in after the screen saver has started my computer reverts back to the old windows login instead of the icon based welcome screen. I had a previous problem with fast user switching that was solved by nass and John (MVP), so I am hoping I can get this problem fixed as well.

Using XP Pro Sp2, recently installed PhotoShop 7 and now when I place a data disk into my CD/DVD drive, Windows folder icons and file icons have either changed to IE or PSD icons. I am not sure how to access file extension configurations within PhotoShop to change this or access elsewhere to make the change.

My wife ran a reg cleaner that caused her computer to reboot after every log-in at the log-in screen. I tried to reload windows from my OEM disk and apparently the entire hard drive was erased. We lost all the files. How can I retrieve them?

Have WinXP Home SP2. I can get an IP address over wireless card to access point. I can then ping anything. However, I cannot view any websites with either Firefox 3 or IE 7. If I reboot in safe mode with networking, I CAN browse any website. Last week, I was unable to connect to my wireless access point. Installed Norton 360 and after removing lots of spyware, etc., and ...

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for my problem, if not, perhaps someone can direct to a more appropriate one? I've been having a problem with static noise - it comes out of the speakers. If I shut off the speaker, no problem, but that's not a solution. The static occurs frequently, but I can't link it to any screen action. Sometimes I'll be in another room, not having used...

I have XP and use dial-up. Beginning a few days ago, whenever I connect to my ISP, Windows gets locked up for a long time and when I do get online eventually it can again lock up the browser. What is happening is svchost.exe, the DNS Client service one, takes up to 99% of my CPU as soon as I connect, and keeps it there. Then when the browser (Avant) does get opened, the browser ...

I have read many sites and many theory but not much I have found in practice. I have done the following things. I have crypted some files using the property tab of a directory. After, I have ...
