Some recent posts mentioned the familiar trick of using a dollar bill as a boot for a torn tire. Fogel Labs spared no expense in testing the longevity of a crisp dollar bill stuffed lengthwise inside an undamaged 700x26c rear tire at ~110 psi for 30 miles. http://i34.tinypic.com/mskgg3.jpg The faint diagonal lines slanting up to the right all over the bill are from the tire ...

I walk or ride bike 365 days of the Minnesota year. When the snow is too treacherous to bike, I walk. I cycle in the 117 F desert heat but I must admit, a Minnesota winter is much more impressive. Bret Cahill

Chicago is ramping up RotR and equipment enforcement on cyclists http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/l...ckdown- weba ug2 2,0,3716423.story Based on a survey in the Logan Square neighborhood between 9 and 11 tonight, about 90% of the cyclists in Chicago don't have any kind of lighting at all, and damn few (less than 50%) even have reflectors. Out rage us. I estimate ...

Hi everybody, I'm just wondering why there is such a big gap in wheel sizes between 29ers and Cokers. Is there a reason other than market size and availability of tires for not making something in between the two? I would figure it to be great to have a compromise between the smooth, fast, stable commuting of 36ers and the better maneuverability and quicker response of 29ers. ...

I have a friend who works for the Republican National Committee. According to her, allegedly Romney's house was getting swept by the Secret Service. He was chosen as the running mate. Background: McCain really did not like Romney during the primaries. Was really offended by some of his attack ads. Back to last week: allegedly, McCain and Romney got into a fight about something. ...

You know those traffic lights that don't change for bicycles? So you stand there until you either die of exposure, or jump the red light to avoid sexual harrassment by a group of teenagers from the university, or a motor vehicle comes along - which does change the lights but the driver's always drunk or worse [1] so you generally wish you'd jumped the lights anyway. On ...

It keeps raining in Texas - and precisely when I have window in my day when I can ride. Got tired and decided to adopt rain or shine riding policy. One of the professors I knew at Mathematics Dept at UT used to commute on bike (65+ yo) every day of the year - except those 2 days every couple of years when we get freezing rain. But I digress. Getting wet mud-butt from riding in ...
