Line-Based Annotations
Published (2009-11-10 02:00:00)
If youre willing to give up the exactness of what the symbology looks like, you can get it to do a lot more work for you: A Line Based Generic Model family can represent a dashed line with an arrow, if you make it that way. It can also report its Length, and update a Schedule of Lengths very easily, with a shared parameter. But... as a modeled object, its "line scale" will change with views. In our case, we decided the...

Depends on what you mean by input. Is the user pressing a single key, or typing a number / string? If key, you can use the grread function. This returns a list with (input_type . value). If the input_type = 2, then it was a keypress and then the value contains the character code. These are ASCII codes: i.e. 48="0" ... 57="9". You can see the rest by using the (ascii "#") function, and to...

Drawing circles in the same 3D...

The line that I changed to red was the only one that went from the hub flange to the rim. I copied it upward - distance doesn't matter. Used 3 of the 4 endpoints (bottom-left, bottom-right, top-right) to create a new (3-point) UCS. Created another new UCS by rotation about the Y (I think) axis.Placed the new circle on the ENDpoint of the original line. (another nutter who's here in the middle of the night )

Modify 3D Objects
Published (2009-11-09 23:18:00)
Hi ALL, The Issue: After the completion the 3d models, the client wants to change the dimensions. Simplified Samples: I am now going to change the width & height of a solid cube and the thickness of the container. What is the easier way to do this? - I don't want to recreate the 3d model because there are features in the solid model (ie. holes, flanges). Your helps are much appreciated.

Published (2009-11-10 03:07:00)
I've seen this a few times in the past couple months. Close Revit and reopen it. Revit seems to apply a lock to the file and doesn't release it. Trying to open the file, it thinks it is locked by someone else. Odd..I'd have reported it if I had a clue what to tell them...waiting to see if it happens. I store a lot of files on an external hard drive and I'm suspicious that it has something to do with that, not sure yet.

There is no "hanger tool". This leaves the Component tool and creating a hanger family to use with it. You can create individual units or a line-based version that lets you "install" a series of them with a couple of points, start and end. Some will argue that it is too much detail but hangers often result in conflicts. At some point it starts to make sense to account for their whereabouts in the...

any takers?
this is the formula in the family
brackets = if(Length < 4' 2", 2, Length / 4')
it doesn't work between 4' and 5' yields an error - "bracket parameter has an invalid value" any other size works fine

I have had similar problems in the past and have stopped using pads as a result.
I lieu of pad I use the split region and associated tools
I create a toposurface in the existing phase and then copy it to exactly the same location in the new construction phase. In the new construction phase I then hide the existing toposurface from all new or complete views and do the required ...

I've uploaded a 3D of the little example frame we made up to play with as you have requested.
We did start by placing beams for horizontal braces and altering them to brace elements but with a sloping frame they don't automatically follow the N/A of the beams they are connectin too iin the same way as braces.
I've also attached an example of the real job where the braces are shown the ...

I wondered about that myself, but since the dimensions exist only in the
family editor environment I didn't allow it to bug me. What I have had some
trouble with is in placing two EQ dims in an effort to make the geometry or
reference plane symmetrical about the middle reference plane/insertion
point. Fortunately I watched Joel/Jarrods video from 2008 AU where they
showed an alternate way to ...

search this forum for path of travel or egress path threads. About a year
or so ago someone posted a very nice family that lets you schedule the
distance on a path of travel with several legs, and has a dot beginning and
an arrow ending.

The (getvar "ACADVER") only gives you the program's version. To get the DWG's version you could always open the DWG for read and read the 1st 5 characters. The numbers are different though: e.g. AC1021 means 2007 format, AC1018 = 2004.

This is one of those requests I hear all the time. Just rolls off a student's tongue as soon as they put a few views on a sheet and start fussing with them. The developers have been hearing it for years too.
What's wrong with expanding on the ease with which we can create orderly documents? All this request is about is improvement. Would anyone really be unhappy if we could align annotation in...

As a residential user, I have to say all I do is use line work to display
it...........It's fast and simple. Not sure if that helps at all. Obviously
it doesn't have any use for error detection and the like.................

I am in the process of setting up a network license of AutoCAD 2010 for several users. Is there a way I can have them load the company profile but also have the ability to customize their individual...
