Indeed, Sandy, my latest plan involves leaving the 4x10 at home and taking an MF rangefinder and an MF slr. The rb is tempting as a big, heavy, not-too-valuable camera that I could leave for long overnight exposures. If only I could only figure out how to make the exposure end at a certain time... something like a 4 hour timer. I am thinking that long exposures might be interesting near the volcanoes or just during cloudless nights at high...

60mm lens best for enlarging...

Quote: Using a longer lens than what the format normally would call for, in this case a 50mm for 35mm film can have another advantage if the enlarger collumn i tall enough. Let's assume that the OP have a specific print size in mind and have determined that the lens performs best at f8. Depending on the negative density it could make the exposure to short for complex doding and burning. Using a longer lens and thereby raising the head up...

MSC, these are very outdated however can still be used in a relative source I think... Don't really know. Someone here will help for sure. I can tell you that if I wait until I have at least six rolls I save quite a bit. I have a single tank as well that gives me 2 135's or 1-220 or 2-120's with the duo tabs. The longer you can wait the better I guess....

The hilarity continues... When I went to shoot the 5k this morning, someone said that I must not be a "professional" because I was not using digital. What the hell? I was standing there holding my 645, I can't think of why someone who was not a photographer would consider a 645 a hobbiest camera.

I would add the variety of Canon Sureshots to the list. Maybe not "cult" cameras, but likely the best image quality you will get in a $5 (or less!) thrift store camera. IME, they are best when used for static subject matter at the widest lens setting in good light with a very steady hand...like all P/S cameras, really. Here is a decent example. It was shot using Fuji Superia 800 (Press). It is a 100% unchanged scan from the...

Well, you've answered your question: The negative carrier is filed and it's mask is larger than what is normally. Another possibility is that the negative carrier has masking blades, so you can make a variety of masks. That produces the black border you see etc. You don't do anything with the negative strip, and you certainly don't want to do anything. Just place it in the negative carrier and ...

Try using PhotoFlo after the distilled water rinse.
After the film is dry try a bulb blower; a very soft brush; or last of all canned air held away, not close to the film.

"Worth Every Penny" What non-camera/lens equipment do you consider to be "Worth Every Penny"?
Would you recommend it to be in everyone's kit?

At one time or another, I have run most of the experiments you describe above. We took, on average, that the best position for buffering at 20 deg C for the Carbonate/Bicarbonate was at 10.1. You will see that in use in the RA and C-41 developers most notably.
Lowering pH brings many advantages but none of which are easily described, but basically the biggest example is that at lower pH, a ...

I agree that they don't have the advertised life span but the ones I've had go out just seem to die off with no unusual heating or breaking.
Like many things the new & improved is no better or worse than the older technology.

Sorry to disappoint but I would not buy the Kiev because it's not well built... just too unreliable. However, the 30mm ARSAT is a nice lens and you can get an adapter to use it on the RB.

the 120 macro lens is worth more than $500 on its own (assuming functional
condition) so you'd be getting the camera and 80 lens for free.

The Contax G1 is available for much less than a Leica and is a much more recent model than the Olympus Pen series (which are actually half-frame cameras and are SLRs as far as I know). Maybe others here have more information on the Contax - I've never owned one. Voigtlander (Cosina) also offered the Bessa series of 35mm rangefinders, the Bessa T and some other models. Here's some info on the 35mm...

60mm lens best for enlarging 35mm negs??? Hi all,
Can anyone shed any light on the supposed fact that it is better to print 35mm negs with a 60mm lens (or even larger)?
I've read some comments about it, but have not read any 'facts' for want of another way to put it. Basically, if it is very true then sure I'll run out and get one!
Thanks, Paul
