Getting Larger Hard Drive
Published (2009-11-25 22:03:00)
Hitachi are very reliable and generally very fast in the benchmark tests. This drive looks like a good one although it does use more power but that shouldn't be a problem in the Mac Mini. No one has used the new Hitachi 7200 rpm yet for any extended period so there is no history on them yet.

I agree Strollin. A certain percentage will shell out. I suspect that when the time comes, we will see a slight fall in the number of legitimate licences held for the OS. However by that time, the percentile difference will probably be less obvious than if those same RC's were cut out today. So it will be marked by a slight downward trend of less than 1%. At least that is my prediction. I am currently holding onto my freebie RC 7100...

HandBrake will dynamically load VLC's copy of libdvdcss if you have it in your Applications folder in Mac OS X, and if you're on Linux, and you want to live on the wild side, you can install libdvdcss on your system and get the...

I bought a very nice high end 20" Samsung monitor prior to buying the 20" ACD because...

no.1 single drive enclosure atm...
Published (2009-11-25 00:45:00)
Turns out both Macpower enclosures now use the oxford 934xx generation, so of those two I'm going with the SK-3500. So I'm now in the midst of finding out what chipsets are used by the four other finalists. If there's any differences I will try to find out what that may or may not mean in 'real world' terms. Also you might have noticed I added another enclosure (Ezquest), it is now 1 of the 5 finalists.

720p = 1280x720 progressive
1080p = 1920x1080 progressive
All movies are first scaled by your mini to the resolution you're running, in your case 1360x768, and then by your TV to its native resolution, i.e. 1080p
You will only see quality differences between 1360x768 and 1920x1080 if the movies are of good quality and in a higher format than 1360x768, such as 960p or 1080p.

As far as I am concerned you bought the best bang for the buck in the Mac Mini line. I am buying that same unit for my wife. I upgraded my Mac Mini to the 2.66 GHz processor with the 500 GB hard drive, but I don't expect you need to do that. You should be very happy with the $799 model performance wise. I think this unit is much better than the $599 model. As for other Mac computers, nothing ...

Is Microsoft fudging the figures for Windows 7 uptake ?
Now that the media's rapturous applause for Windows 7 has died away, what is the real situation with Windows 7.
Headlines like Windows 7 up 234% higher than Vista can be misleading.
While there is no doubt there are more copies of Windows 7 being put to use in the field, when compared to the same sort of after ...

Hey all,
As the thread heading alludes to....
I'm interested in ya'll's opinions as to which is the best single drive fw800 enclosure on the market atm!
I'm aware of many of the options, but am curious which ones users on this forum would chose and why?
My main criteria are:
1) Best performing, most stable SATA bridge chip on the market.
2) Excellent cooling ...

It would be nice if they discounted the Mac mini this year. I would think about buying one for like a $100 off.

Thanks for the advice. I'm thinking about getting another mini and would go for the 2.53 Ghz model. So the 3563 score is for the standard 5400rpm hdd? Do you know what difference a 7200rpm drive would make?
Why such a small difference between the 2007 and early 2009 mini? I'm pretty sure the 2009 mini feels a lot better than the 2007 mini.

A good example as to why buying Apple products makes sense. If this were an issue with any other brand of monitor, likely you'd have to live with it.
