This is a great topic and opens up a good discussion. I personally feel, not being biased(Much) that when Kawka brought out the 1000 it was in competition with the other tourers around which were priced fairly high. The big K got it right with the 1000, simple and easy to maintain, and time shows that they hit the right market then. Now, though, it seems that they have gone to the "dark side" in trying to have the best of...

Not good to hear that you copped it on the way home from Corryong Ken, but have to say that it was a fantastic weekend and thank you for putting it together. As I read earlier about someone removing build up from the disc, could this be causing the problem allowing the brakes to grip a little more in some places than others? If this is the case, wouldn't that mean that using a different compound brake pad place this problem to rest? Maybe...

Thank you Andrew - you are proving a good soure of information This "body" didn't seem to do much but given mine was crazed and weeping it seemed worth replacing (a whole $8.37 including postage!) just in case. Regards,

Hello Patrick93 You mention under 6 foot it would be hard to beat. Why under 6 foot? I have found the 1400 one, of only a very few bike that are extremely well suited to my height at 6'4". In other posts member often comment that the 1400 is not suited to people shorter. I did like the RT I rode but love the 4 cyclinder for grunt. Cheers Trevor

Not likely to be final drive if OK in 6th. When/how did the noise start ie, all at once or has it been developing - before or since oil change? you may find bits when the oil is drained. Splitting the case to have a look-see is probably a cheapish job but fixing it if in a sad state would be $$$ - cheaper to replace engine as someone sggested to you.

I'm actually unsure of the condition of the motor. Although the cams are spotless, I've no idea about the the rest of it. I see someone else has offered you an engine...it might be a better option.

Passing of a forum member

With sadness I pass on a message about the passing of one of our forum members Dan (danegan1) This is a message I received from his sister Cat The forum member in question is my brother - danegan1. He died last week. I know he has a number of friends he rode with, but I don't know who they are or how to contact them to let them know. I am guessing that as he was a member here in recent months, some of them may be members here too - and...

Coolant Filter / sight glass?
Published (2009-11-25 09:12:57)
I think that will self bleed given some heat cycles. If it doesn't, see how the top hose runs back downhill? If you can push that hose downwards and run teh bike, it SHOULD come out. If not, you could try loosening the hose clamp and allowing the air out of the hose. You will need to remove the radiator cap to do this, or the system will have a slight vacuum that will defeat you. Do this procedure with a cold engine! It won't affect...

Hello R1Flyer
Interesting comments on the 1400GTR.
Heat is a problem and is not hidden by anybody. In fact the 2010 model comments about the improved heat dispersing.
As for the handling of the ST1300 being better I beg to differ. I have a few friend in the dealerships and when I rode the 2 bikes I came to the same
conclusion as they did that the 1400 was a fair way in front of the ...

Hello R1Flyer
I fitted the Stain tune exhaust to my 1400 and a PC3 at the same time I fitted the air cleaner and removed the flies.
Worth the money as it dropped about 6kgs, gained low down, throttle response, gained a few hp and best of all made the bike stand and deliver a note worthy of
a 1400.
As for adding the can on its own there are a few around with just a can added.

Had my 12k service last week at Kelens, Penrith. Asked them to look at the front rotors and consider replacing same under warranty as I was experiencing the
same shudder as everyone else. They insisted on replacing the front tyre first ( I had it booked in elsewhere for one later in the week). But even after
replacing the tyre they conceded that there was definitely a problem... I think it helped...

Daryl, doom and gloom is not necessarily imminent. Perhaps a more detailed description of the problem?
Nice fresh oil makes a really really really humungus difference to my '93 in the gearbox department.
Even try some Shell rimulaX 15-40 diesel oil. (Its a bit like a spa and a massage for GTR gearboxs)

Hi Trace' I was surprised, and disappointed that there is only about one line concerning Dave and also the same (if at all) in Australian Road Rider. I
would think that there was enough time for adding a write up and eulogy for this special person.

I'm sorry to hear the lose of Danegan1, my thoughts and heart are with his family and friends.
It's not good hearing about the passing of anyone and people seem to be taken from us way to soon, like Sgt I also am unable to make the service so will be
there in thought and spirit as well.
May God be with us all, and riding with us making it a safer place for all.
Mere
