i find their recommendations are only good if you've been using it for a while and have a varying taste in music. otherwise, lastfm can be the WORST. i've gotten some pretty bad recommendations from pandora too though, i think i just have abnormal tastes.

60% of the songs by The Beatles. Also Matte Kudasai by King Crimson. The lyrics themselves aren't very romantic, but in the context of the song they are. Still by the window pane Pain like the rain that’s falling She waits in the air Matte kudasai She sleeps in a chair In her sad america When was a night so long Long like the notes I’m sending She waits in the air Matte kudasai She sleeps in a chair In her sad america

I see lots of youth where I work that listen to music that's really misogynist (both male and female kids) it's all over the pop charts too. And you can see how pervasive it is just by looking at music videos. But then I support absolutely crappy pop music; eventually actual musicians will get so sick of it there will be a glorious musical renaissance, the likes of which have never been seen. A girl can hope.

I am just a cowboy lonesome on the trail. Lord, I'm just thinking about a certain female... And simultaneously, I found that my music library had a way too low percentage of songs with lyrics that are (you guessed it) cute and romantic. Currently, some Newton Faulkner and Black Stone Cherry is being played quite alot, but it seemed like a good idea (at 1:40 AM) to make a thread for ...

Making that stiff decision - There are several routes you can take. The first is out and out gallows humour, easily acheivable by instructing your funeral director to crank Highway to Hell, Motorhead's Stone Dead Forever, Blue Oyster Cult's Don't Fear teh Reaper or Motley Crue's Kickstart my Heart (Might be a little late for that, but it worked for Nikki Sixx). The Mourners will be rolling in the...

hear me out on this one. "I kissed a girl and I liked it" "Let's get it started in here" Many pop "musicians" or lyricists tend to use heavy amounts of inuendo, useless sexual catchphrases, and candid bullshit over and over again, over insultingly simple "beats". The time signitures are usually in 4/4 time, with no groove. They then get labelled as genuine musicans and make a mockery of the ...

Yeah, right. I'd like to see you mount a storm. With or without leather pants. If you think the place you're going to will be free of disease, work and risk, but still allow you to meet people, then you've been horribly misguided. However, it might be better than the West Bank. Good luck with that. If you fought at New Orleans, you'd be long dead when that fruit company started sounding off....

Okay, this is a request for an identification of a classical piece. Me singing a few bars of the melody found here (~670 KB WAV). [ EDIT: I figured it out. It's the Hebrides Overture , aka Fingal's Cave, by Mendelssohn.]

Question: where would you classify Billy Talent, if you would cast them into this spectrum at all? A friend immediately classified them "punk", hence their presence here. They refuse to classify themselves, which everyone knows will stop others less fit (me) from trying to do so.

I started this on another forum and it seems to be going pretty well there. Here is where you post your opinions about music that make most people tell you you're crazy. (There can be a bit of arguing, just dont make it into a flame war m'kay?) -Pantera is way, WAY over rated, all of their stuff is all the same. -So is Slayer -American Idiot is a near-perfect album -Bjork needs her vocal cords...

I' m 19, and I sing in the band Broadway (http://www.myspace.com/broadwayfl). I've seen music recommendations on this forum, and most seem limited to mainstream contemporary. So I thought I'd offer some band or artist that you may not have heard due to the underground nature of the music. Not underground in the sense that nobody knows about it, because that often tends to just be crap, but ...

I'm trying to put together a playlist for the cafe I work at and I'm kinda lost. Any suggestions? Any genre goes and obviously no swearing violence etc. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty much as the title says: you pick your favourite band, and recommend it here, preferably with a link to a good song or video of theirs. I'm gonna recommend The Strokes. Here's my favourite song (although the video is boring.) They're a great indie rock band. So go ahead, suggest away. But limit it to the one artist please so that people don't get overwhelmed. Maybe if this thread ...

I've browsed through the past three pages and didn't find anything related to the grunge genre (not necessarily artists) from any of the titles. I might have missed something but I'm pretty sure the thread hasn't been done. My bad if it has been. I'm really into grunge. It's my favourite genre. Recently, I've sorted all my iPod artists into genres in order to put off doing exam revision, and ...
