For a rig you get what you pay for, however since not many use CB anymore you can also get a deal. I run an older (metal cased) cobra-19 and find the audio tx and rx to be superior to many other lower end,
no thrills radios.
I know well that more important than the rig is the antenna. You cannot get better (for mobile) than a 102" stainless whip, mounted on top of truck in center. Do not ...

I just did it, it should fit in the ashtray area with some minor trimming. I used the bracket they supply and sole bolts and bolted it right onto the top part of the plastic of where the ashtray mounts and it works fine.
I tapped my cigg lighter for power just by plugging my cb wire into the and voila it works with my key in and thats that.
I am thinking about
splicing in a set of ...

you have to tune it, or you will destroy your new cb radio. Dont key the mic without it being tuned or over time you will destroy it. i thik that may be a problem. Get an
SWR meter from radioshack or take it to a cb shop.

Are you asking about hardmount
antennas or magnetic mount ones? The CB you
get will not really make a big difference, although Cobra has a pretty good
clarity booster with some of their more high-end models. I have no problems
with my Cobra 75WXST and 2000 series mag-mount antenna.
I got my CB stuff from Amazon.com when they had some sort of sale going.

You might need to be a little more specific. I'm assuming you're talking about a stand alone unit and not one that's incorporated into a head unit since you said simple. Pretty much any of the new ones talk, I think the only difference between the cheaper ones and the ones right above those is that the middle of the road ones will actually
say the name of the street instead of just telling you ...
