I don't have any specific tasting notes, but wanted to post that the 2005 is a good vintage of this wine. I liked the 2004 a lot... 2006 is available now, so maybe you can get good deals on the 2005. It's a great QPR pop-and-pour Amarone. Blows away other inexpensive Amarone (e.g., Trader Joe's 2006 Conte di Bregonzo). Much bigger flavor, darker fruit and more complexity than you'd expect at the price point (in the US$20s).

I bought mine at release so I know they were stored well. Of course, they might have been percolating on a ship across the Atlantic.

quote: So there was a lack of fruit on the palate but more in the nose, is that what you saying? That's a good summary. There was some fruit, but it was more of a tart, drying fruit rather than a richer, sweet fruit. Most importantly, the fruit was not in balance with the other underlying components of the wine. I'm not surprised that there's a lot of '86 Bordeaux out there. After all, I picked this up at auction.

Thanks for the notes on the 06 Newton unfiltered chard. I had the 04 recently and it was showing well. I think the 04 has some life ahead of it.

I opened a bottle with my wife this weekend, and we finished it up over 24 hours. Very fresh, very balanced, very nice. If there's indeed bottle variation, I'm happy that the first one in my case is excellent. You can taste the juicy fruit, right off the vine. Nice tannins, better acidity than I remember, just a tad hot on the back end, with a nice finish. Drink or Hold, with upside. 92+

Popped and Poured. Holding up really well for a 13 year old red. Big nose of currents and wildflowers. Excellent fruit on a smooth palate with an excellent finish. This paired well with a sauce of San Marzano tomatoes and ground beef. The tannins were fully resolved, no oak was evident. Drinking well, but may hold over the short term. A-/B+

I enjoyed your characterization. I had a bottle of the '04 about a year ago and while it was pleasant, I felt a bit underwhelmed, probably in part because I'd expected more. I've so greatly enjoyed a few vintages of his valpolicella classico superiore bottling.

I picked up a case of these a couple years ago after seeing it on the top 100 ( I know that's a no-no to most people) and was kind of disappointed with it initially but it's really pulling together nicely now. I Don't remember exactly what I paid but it was under 20 bucks and at this point it was a great buy and I'm glad I still have half a case left. The first few I had a while ago were a ...

I had the '06 a month ago and didn't like it nearly as much as the '02 or '05. Well made but too much sulpher for my taste. I couldn't get past it but maybe it was a bad bottle.

i was curious about these B-C appellation wines since their whole model was SVD's how would you compare the B-C Sta Rita Hills to other B-C Pinots, which despite distinct characterstics, take many, many years to blossom and show their uniqueness, often coming off austere and monolithic in youth? thanks for the notes

Sounds consistent with the last two vintages. How much is LCBO selling this wine for? It's over $80 here for the 2006 vintage. I paid around $50 in previous years, so it's really shot up.

Wow. I was about to start a new post when I saw yours...we couldn't disagree more. A hint of heat, overly sweet and simple - I can suck it down, but it reminds me of any number of low end aussie shirazes. Good thing I only bought a single 375!

I have not tried it, but I hear it is quite unique and monolithic. I believe this got 100pts by someone. Wine Enthusiast maybe. What kind of price are you seeing this for? IW

Thanks for the TN's on the 2005 Match Baconbrook! I agree with your comments, especially "room to improve", and since I prefer more maturity anyway, I've got a hold on the 2005 Baconbrook till 2012. Also, I have scored all of the Match 92/94 points. Match wines have been very consistent and refined. Also, I really like the unique and colorful labels, Royal Blue for Butterdragon and kind of...

Thanks for those excellent and in-depth notes! You have explained my thoughts for most all of the 1986 Bordeaux First and Second Growths. Simply put, do they have enough fruit to outrun those searing tannins? I surely don't have the answer, but I reduced my holdings of 1986 Bordeaux wines by over half, last year. However, if I was 30/50 years old, I would have held another 10 years before ...
