Looks as if Beringer Private Reserve made a good decision, and it appears the number of good deals on premium wines are increasing. Still, I'm holding off any new purchases, and will be very selective.

This is on sale right now for $59 at Winexchange in OC, CA. A good, high quality, if not cookie cutter, CA Cab. Notes of black cherry, creme de cassis, toasty oak, and vanilla bean. Straightforward as far as complexity goes, but it soared right through the beginning, middle, and end. Very complete. Cellarworthy taboot. 92 pts.

Those depos have been moved and we are waiting to nail down dates in later december. It looks like the 14-18 is up for grabs. Don't know location yet.... I'll let you know as soon as it is final. G

This may be the right occasion to ask ... what does "drab" mean, and how is the expression derived? I have seen the word many times in this forum, and I have a theory, but would like to know if I am correct or not. Thanks in advance.

Ahh, got it. You're probably right, assuming the bottle was stored on its side. If it was standing up I could see it being possible. Have you spent much time in Denver? It makes the Chicago winter seem humid by comparison.

2005 Jean-Pierre et Jean-Francois Quenard Vin de Savoie Chignin Anne de la Biguerne - France, Savoie, Vin de Savoie Chignin (11/24/2009) Mineral notes with a touch of nut and maybe a touch of green tea. Pear, dried apricot, lemon and quince. High acidity but also a certain fatness, balanced with a med finish. Interesting. Shows much more minerality and complexity than the straight Chignin. (90 pts.) Perfect cork, 13.5% alcohol, light to medium ruby color, perfumed nose that opened right up. The taste however needed 45 minutes or so to open. Not a blockbuster wine but a delicious one to serve with the turkey. 2000 is not a great vintage in Burgundy but not too bad either. No problem drinking this Grand Cru now. 90 points.

A former regular poster on this board has commented to me on several occasions that this is one of his single favorite bottlings of CA Cab ever. Thank you for the note!

thanks for the note, VS. I'm generally a big fan of Leitz, although your "halbtrocken" comment will probably keep me away from this one.

Nice to see Andrew's name pop up here - you don't see it very often anymore . . . Though he's still kicking, and I'd have to say that his current 07 releases may be his best in some time! Cheers!

Hi there, mneeley490! I've not had this particular wine, but I've always enjoyed the niche that Kennedy Shah wines fill, and fill well: very nicely priced, easy-drinking wines (often varietals that you don't often see in Washington - e.g. a very nice Temparanillo). Thanks for posting.

When we tasted this at the winery (don't know how long it was opened for) and as soon as we got home (held a tasting for some of our friends), it was amazing right out of the bottle. Without further considerations for how it will age in the future, the wine was drinking 96-98 already.

gdn, have you had many from the 2001 vintage, and if so, how do you think they are drinking? I bought VERY few from '01, but the pricing on them currently is truly attractive. TIA.

no formal notes but had a bottle of this on Tues night with some people who had never had a Neal wine and it was very good right out of the bottle... nicely integrated tannins, good weight & texture, the flavors were tight but you could still taste alot going on... still has a long life ahead of it obviously but it drank very well at this point with no decanting

Joe - thanks for the notes. I have not been able to find out a lot about this producer. I was gifted with 2 bottles of the 03 of this wine. Do you have any experience with that wine as well? If so, any suggestions? I know about 2003 as a vintage, but didn't want to pre-pop this too early. thanks

2007 Melville Viognier Estate Verna's - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County (12/15/2008) Less floral than most Viognier, with a heavy, thick texture from the 15.5% alcohol, but has some nice balancing acidity that keeps it from being flabby. I got some fruit flavors of lemon, pear, and nectarine. This wine reminded me a little of the Beringer Alluvium blanc, but with a ...

This is one bottle where the acidity is too distracting for me to drink on its own. For the more sensitive teeth, I'd recommend it with some food, to which it becomes quite nice.
