Experimental section
Published (2009-11-08 12:25:00)
It need not necessarily be an experimental section. ETS had announced that it may introduce a new type of question and each test taker may receive utmost one question from these new types. One such new question is a sentence completion with 2 or 3 blanks. So its quite possible that the last section is the actual verbal part of GRE. I would advise you to reinstate your score. Because, most test takers feel bad once they finish their tests and...

You need to have a back up plan in case you couldn't secure fund. I read at Goldust's post that he was admitted at many top schools (as UMCP) however without fund.

I just practised from the ETS pool of questions. You might want to try practising a few topics, and either evaluating them yourself (if you feel you could do that objectively), or getting a friend or teacher to evaluate them for you. If you want some tiips, have a look at Nova's AWA section, but I believe that they key to a good score is practice.

@bergmc00 thank you.. there are other good debriefs around here in forums, just dig more you will find many useful posts @rashmi_rrp if you are comfortable with quants concepts then just look for some tricks GRE likes to include in test(for e.g in one question decimal numbers are also to be considered in the question but naive GRE test taker just thinks about integers and falls for the trap), one way to do this is solve more n more tests and...

No, the schools will know of the cancellation. ETS does this precisely to prevent people who would take it for "fun".

Experimental section

Thank you for your reply userx34, Oh ofcourse I know that I don't have an option to select which one gets marked. I'm just wondering if the experimental section always contains the new type questions. i.e if i had section 1 orthodox format , section 2 with new type questions, does that necessarily mean that section 2 was the non-marked section? or is there no way to tell?

hey all,

I was offline throughout the weekend and logged on this morning primarily to hear the good news from Luma. I'm perplexed-to say the Least. I hope that that this issue is resolved in your favour. I understand why you wouldn't want to take GRE again, but I join the chorus of encouragements for you to retake if you dont find enough good schools that don't require GRE. Try to stay positive. Cheers....

Congrats! Why would you need to retake it? That is already most likely 95+ percentile.

Thank you. It was also my opinion that the scores are mostly for the first screening, so I guess I have to take it again and make sure I score an 780-800 at quants. Are you at Penn State? I was eyeballing Penn for EE. So I guess over 770 is a must for Penn too.
