the only color I try to avoid on Black is black because you can end up with floating heads. If I know I can light it okay black isn't so bad but if the lighting is off you can end up with a floating head, or floating naked baby. Not saying you shouldn't use black just be aware of your lighting and keeping some separation of subject from background

I actually think if they were colored lights, he'd not stand out from them as much so I like the monotone look He has such a look of wonder, making it perfect for the holiday season. I do like that you can see his whole hood and face in the first one and don't feel like not having his eyes perfectly in the ROT really detracts from the photo. Are you going to use this on a Christmas card?

I keep mine one notch up from 0. I used to use Shades, but I was having a bit of trouble with calibrating while running shades, and Shades is not compatible with Snow Leopard (at least it wasn't when SL was released; I haven't checked lately). I also process while keeping an eye on RGB numbers, so I can gauge my brightness that way as well.

Amanda, thanks so much for sharing! Now if I could just possess half your talent I might get somewhere! Can you make THAT available for download at all? LOL! BTW, I use PSE 6 & it works great in my program (for any other PSE users out there).

You might want to check out the a550, too - it's a little more expensive, but it has newer sensor (CMOS vs. CCD in the a330) and noise reduction technology plus some other advantages over the a330 - bigger LCD, longer battery life, higher ISO, faster shooting speed, manual focus confirmation, etc. Not sure what your budget is, but if you already have decent glass and have a little extra to ...

To answer the question in the title.... I forget to take off the lens cap still Since I never shoot manual focust I'v not missed that one. Aadan's a cutie. I love round babies. No suggestions on fixing the color other than warming him up a bit.

Get the free program Shades. You can google it to find it. Even turning down the Mac brightness within the Mac controls isn't enough. I have my controls with Shades turned way down and my prints turn out fine brightness wise.

How many Nikon lenses do you have already? You could look at the D90, which is around 800 for the body only. I'm gonig to be upgrading to that this spring. Regarding a prime lens, what are you looking for? Nikon has a 35 1.8 that is around $200 that will auto-focus on the D40. Tamron also has a 28-75 2.8 which is superb and auto-focuses on the D40. I have the Tamron and have also tried the...
