Why is it that everyone thinks George Washington was American? Granted, that's where he lived, but he was about as American as I am Zizizoofoo. He was a descendant of Euros, the best group of people on earth. All of the euros were genetically superior, and not even American born, they were British! Same with the Macedonians(descendants of Awesometon) and post conquest of the brown man....

Was the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki with nukes justified? Or was it unjustified crime, that the fact it was executed by the USA is a stain on American history? Well, I think that the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki wasn't somehow less criminal than the bombing of Drasden, Berlin or Königsberg by Britain and the Soviet Union. It was a neccesery act to end the war with minimum ...

My choice is Scipio Africanus. This may seem like an unusual choice only because he gets no publicity and is virtually unknown compared to other choices such as Napoleon, Julius Caesar, Alexander, Robert E. Lee, Wellington etc. Scipio had no glaring flaws - made no disasterous moves - was never defeated. When Scipio came to command Rome was on it's knees trying to hold off Hannibal. He ...

Ok, we hear some Americans going on about how they saved us in World War II, but think about it, didn't Russia save us all? Because WWII their casualties outnumbered everyone else put together? And if it hadn't of been for Hitlers massive defeat in Russia, he would probably of held his other fronts? Russia didn't join in, and it was Hitler fault attacking, but I mean Japan attacked ...

Why is it that everyone thinks Queen Cleopatra was Egyptian? Granted, that's where she lived, but she was about as Egyptian as I am Prussian. She was a descendant of Ptolemy, one of Alexander the Great's generals. All of the Ptolemeic nobles were european, and not even Greek, they were Macedonian! Same with the hellenistic Syrians(descendants of Seleucus) and post conquest Persia....

Is there a link to an article or paragraphs about the history of Roman officer helmets? What's the difference if the crest color is white, black or red? Is there any discretion on ranks via the colors?

I don't know what the plural form was for someone supporting the Union or I didn't want to put 'Yankee' so I put Unionist, please correct me if someone knows the correct word. This is a question I have thought of for a few minutes. Washington was born in Virginia, right, but would he support the Union or the Confederacy, if he was alive for the Civil War? What do you think?

The might of a hyperpower or superpower in today's term is mostly measured by their political and economic influence over another country. So let's discuss about every major empires or superpower, and their influence over the states from all over the world. Let's start with something else from a change first. ( Let use 3 pages of a thread to discuss one empire shall we? )...

Just got this idea. Since there have been postet many links for different videos. covering different periods of history. I have decitet too make a video thred, where members of TWC can post their links In that way it will be more easy for the members to find and watch history related movies. The rules for adding a thread: The poster will only post history related movies...

For me it would be: standing up to Napoleon, standing up to Hitler, helping to abolish the slave trade and being the first country to industrialize.

the 2 greatest empires of their time who would win? China with its vast armies and good political system or Rome with its disiplined legions and its effective deployment system? Personally I think Rome wouldnt win...not beause they arent cut out for the win but because chinese armies were so big and so tactically advanced that they pretty much would blitz the romans. Both ...

The Chinese, but it depends on your definition of the military: All armies have to do some non-military labor or another... the Chinese armies just had to a lot more of the non-military labor than others, so it is an ambiguous state of affairs whether they had a large military or they had a large conscripted work-force.

I'm obsessed with trying to think of the reasons why this man was so amazingly successful in conquering such vast territories in only a few years. I tried to collect + categorize these reasons (although I'm not a trained historian), and make a poll of them. These seem to be the most commonly acknowledged reasons behind Alexander's success story: 1...

Who Was The Greatest Leader of the 20th Century? I base my list on Time magazine's roster (which can be found here ), so I disclaim all demands like "Why is Mr. X not on the list?", and will forward it to the editors of Time. Vote and discuss.

Since another, similar recent poll only included wars and fanboy stuff and ignored the really significant things that happened in the Middle Ages, here's another try. Which of the following Medieval elements, cultural movements or innovations had the most impact on history?: 1. The Empire/Papacy Disputes 2. The Twelfth Century Renaissance and the revival of ancient learning...
