IGuardPC - How to remove?
Published (2009-12-15 14:17:00)
I would prefer to check the logs and see if any other programs are recommended. I would also help you remove the cleaning tools and old restore points when you are clean. However, you consider this problem Solved. So consider the thread closed.

Unable to start my anti-virus
Published (2009-12-10 15:19:00)
I meant to say I was browsing for the file explorer.exe in the directory path you gave me to upload to antivir.org. I was just trying to make the point that I couldn't use my keyboard to simply type the file path into the space provided. I am not on a laptop. There were only two items in msconfig->startup w/ a check mark: 1)avira 2)dumprep 0 -k. Is it time for me to nuke this install of XP and start over, or is there something else...

MBAM question
Published (2009-12-12 01:23:00)
Thanks guys, In your opinions then, is it safe enough to be normally running with just Avira in the background and running MBAM scans about once a week? My other computer was hit with a lot of trojans and malware so I just want to make sure with this lap top, I have eough precautions in place. Is it necessary to have a real-time malware protection? or is that just extra? I appreciate any thoughts

I have since enabled SR again once the deleted my previous restore points, so I am using it again. When I said I don't typically use it, I meant I typically don't make a habit of manually creating points. I honestly can't remember the last time I used SR, years ago. I use disk imaging software and make backups of all my personal data regularly, so the feature has been collecting dust for the most part. Thanks for the input...

My daughter has a Dell laptop and got a Win32 virus on it last night. The Qwest virus protection couldn't get rid of it and she started getting popups every couple seconds from Qwest. I downloaded Malwarebytes, ran a scan and cleaned everything it found. It told me to reboot the computer to finish the cleaning process and when I did, we got the blue screen with the following message:

What would happen if during the malware removal, one of your Windows system files were deleted? I really don't feel any support member would like to be in that position, with you not having a computer that even starts Windows at all

Davey, Tmagic is right- we can't do a thing until we see what's on the system. That's where the logs come in. Those 8 steps are meant to be preliminary and don't necessarily mean that running them removes all the malware. That's where we come in to help.
Please follow the steps HERE .
Attach the 3 logs for review when finished.

Depends on how you do it:
You should now set a new Restore Point to prevent infection from any previous Restore Points. The easiest and safest way to do this is : Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools and click " System Restore ".
Choose the radio button marked " Create a Restore Point " on the first screen then click " Next ". Give the Restore Point a name ...

Note System Restore does not affect personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos. You can only restore files that you have deleted if you have made backups of those files.
If you delete files that go to the Recycle Bin but forgot to empty the bin, you can also restore the files from there.
