I'm very good at batch files too so these simple commands are annoying Obviously you have an Exit command? And I did put "pause" in there I'm thinking that its "calling" another batch by the same name, ie chkdsk.bat, or something silly

Weird... ok, they all worked that time. Several others are starting to work that were not working yesterday. The one that still won't run from batch is chkdsk.

Sorry Mailpup, the successful downloads were all from Microsoft direct - they tried, I tried -.no problem with downloading, just the install which runs to the end, then the 'unable to instll .NET. message" I hope I"m making sense! We tried all the .NETs, from l.l to 3.5 SP 1.

oops, sorry about that; LUA & UAC are in Windows, not the firewall. LUA stands for Limit User Account (XP) and UAC stands for User Access Control (Vista/Win7) The bottom line is DON'T run day-to-day on the Internet using an Administrator account!

I had the drivers which the Nvidia detection utility selected (v191.07 for W7 64bit) but as I had the problem I downloaded the beta version (v195.39) to see if that would solve it- but still have the problem :-). I tried Nero to rule out the possibility that the error was application specific - and discovered it isn't :-)

the .DMG is a means to MOUNT an image, which normally is not required.
put the software/files on the CD or DVD and then insert to the mac.
Most of the time, an 'installer' is not necessary at all.
Care to tell us more details so we can make better comments?

You can use the DOS "Start" command (in your batch file), ie:
Start chkdsk C: /r
To start CheckDisk (actually, it will ask you Yes or No, to start on next restart)
Edit :
Oh or "Call"
Call chkdsk C: /r

An easy way around this remote server Browser settings homepage from displaying is by creating a shortcut on your Desktop with say http://www.google.com/ as the location.
Then instead of clicking on your standard Firefox icon, just double click on the new shortcut, Google will then open

AVG 8 was removed from the Malware removal guide as many users reported that AVG had caused Network issues (when infected) and also Avira/Avast! at the time, was much less resourced and usually detected more Virus/Malware than AVG

AVG 9 was developed, with much less ...

The filesystem defines how things are organized on the disk vs. the Operating System which reads/writes to the filesystem. The filesystem is a "layer" of the Operating System.
Think of it kinda like:
> A library can organize books by different methods, e.g. the Dewey decimal system or alphabetically by title. The librarian is the interface to the library and responsible for filing the books...

Yes but what if you don't have Vista Movie Maker? (ie You updated to Windows 7 and realized now that you need it. Or you upgraded from XP)
I think most will feel this is the biggest problem.
Not for me though, because I use free VLC Media Player , and have done so for years (Oh for viewing only )
