Quote: Couple of Q's. First about Ayre CDPs in general: Ayre's ad in recent Stereophile claims they were first (2002) to use
CD-ROM drive. That seems hard to believe considering the date: 2002. Surely some other manuf. has used a CD-ROM drive in their CDP. Can someone clarify? I believe Meridian used a DVD-R drive in their 1999-vintage Model 800 DVD-A player, but that ...

Just got my Music Direct email about it. It seems price creep has hit Oppo! I like Oppo and all, but I am wondering a little about
diminishing returns at this point. I'll be curious to see how people react to its sonics!

The units you are talking about are old technology; they are way overpriced for their performance. The SONY SCD-XA5400ES is only $1500 and is better-sounding than any player Accuphase has ever made; furthermore it is probably the best-sounding player for under $10,000. THe
Meridian MIGHT be better (at $16,000), but that is an open question. Listen to the Sony and you will sell your ...

I heard them both when a friend auditioned them in his home (along with the SONY 9000). The other two units came in way behind the
Ayre...not even in the same ballpark! The Sony 5400 was not auditioned; wish we had had it to compare also.

The one thing that strikes me about any of those players is the updatability of the Ayre. The Bryston is a great player and I doubt that anyone who owns one, or the Cary, is at all disappointed. But for me, I would buy the Ayre and know that when Mr. Hansen gets a
new idea it can be incorporated into my player at any time. Go back and look at JA's measurements for the latest dcs ...

Sounds interesting but there doesn't appear to any indication as the projected street date. Also no mention of what software would be used to access and maintain one's hard drive based music library. If they plan on using iTunes as the front end they had better forget about the
high resolution streaming since iTunes doesn't do FLAC files. But at least PS Audio understands that the ...

I believe the product is offered direct with a 30 day money back
return policy. With ears that big you would think one could decide for themselves!

Well, since no one has responded, I'm throw in my 2 cents. If your on a budget, I would recommend the
Oppo DV-980H. I love mine and I'm pretty sure it will play all the file types you mentioned. You can even play files from a thumb drive plugged into the USB jack on the front. Good luck.
