Kieth, I appreciate your perspective. I have heard this argument before. I realize I painted a not-to-pretty picture yesterday. I am at a low point in my life. I am recently unemployed and fighting with that agency to get assistance. I see myself being forced out of my home in a months time if this doesn't change. I'm stressed. I consider my self fortunate to have a happy marriage, awesome kids, dogs, the whole works. I live in a...

Thanks LS. Making a plan is a good idea. This one could be a little strange, but I will get through it. Just got to figure out how. What's nice is that I don't crave the Alcohol anymore. Just don't need any temptations right now. I'm on the right path, that I know. Just want to make sure I stay on it. Also, I would skip this one since it's so close to my sober date, but you are 100% correct that skipping it as the...

Dunno bout france, but there's quite a few BRITANS on SR... hopefully someone will come along who knows? Count it as knowledge gained, hon. Learning from it is the only way we can reverse a mistake.

Hi Julia I think nothing changes if nothing changes - you already know you can't drink - the sooner you accept that and stop trying the sooner you'll find a much better life, I think. I know it's hard to accept but it's Step One for a reason Does your daughter know the extent of your drinking? It's up to you, but if it were me I'd want her to know before the trip. I hope you find a good sponsor. Start looking...

Maybe I haven't been around long enough to know much, but I would hate to be in tib's shoes right now... Yeah, he was wrong for cussing out someone, and maybe the club had a right to bar him... but we are about support here, right? I've f*cked up plenty of times and made an a$$ of myself plenty of times.. he may have some issues he needs to work out but I don't think we're here to judge.. Just my two cents. Carry on,...

Please be careful. If your GF is in recovery then have another recovery person monitor you. Its very dangerous to detox without professional help. I am praying for you both.

Good Luck Josh, I hate this disease. I am staring at trying to pull the plug after a taper off. I'm gonna do it, it's going to suck the first few days but I need to try.

We all have been there... please don't take Xanex, I cant tell you what to do, but I know for me that really didn't help anything... and mixing it w/ booze is extremely dangerous... get into AA (thats what I did)... or detox then AA... best of luck Clayton

I did all of what you have posted and ended up crawling into AA begging for help! I have a CBT counselor who did 20 years in resdidential and is very supportive of the 12 step program...he's quite special actually as previous ones would ask stupid questions like 'so do you want to abstain from drinking at the end of our 10 weeks sessions or control it'...i mean c'mon... For what it is worth you haven't failed...you are here seeking help. Don't beat yourself up. I know I used to do that--be hard on myself until I realized the alcohol had already beaten me up enough. Keep reaching out. You are not alone. We do recover.

I have been to many many clubs and I have only seen one instance of where someone was banned who had become delusional and started to slap the woman seated next to him. It was done to protect the people inside the club. The only requirement for membership in AA is a desire to stop drinking but clubs can take action if necessary. You might try another club and a different approach at that club....

Sounds pretty fishy to me, but I agree that if you are battling your own drinking issues, being with her could be pretty toxic. Sometimes you just have to be "selfish" and take care of yourself first. Take care.

If the fundamental principles of AA are mostly true, then whats the heck is the problem? Are you looking for the perfect program, the holy grail so to speak? Any reason why a damn good program won't do for now? You can still use SMART and WFS - lots of people use multiple ways of staying sober. And you can still look for that perfect program if you want.

Welcome to SR TheRock - I am a similar age and understand the family issues. I am glad that you have come to accept that you need help and have reached out to SR. There are a lot of people here who have been through what you have. I relate to many of the things you say. My first thought is that you might be going through alcohol or drug withdrawl.
