Winchester Ranger .40 S&W ammo
Published (2009-12-02 18:36:00)
I have not voted or shot much Ranger ammo (especially in 40) for that matter which is the reason for my polls. I was thinking my first pick would have been the 180 GR (RA40B) in the BONDED.

I exclusively use wwb at the range for practice (glad I purchased an abundance of it before supply and prices went crazy). For defensive ammo, I always load my carry piece with Federal 135 grain jhp.

Seriously? Well, you could always take it apart, but it seems to me you want to do this while you're on your way out the door. If you've got a bunch, the bottle idea (aside from being ineffective) would be very slow. Just load it all in the oven and put it on self-clean mode. That should cook off most of it. (Seriously?)

The bulk packs of "reclassified" or "practice only" Gold Dots were more common a few years ago. There have been a number of explanations advanced as for why they are not considered appropriate for law enforcement or other defensive use, but I've never heard of a problem with them. I've gone through quite a few in both 40 S&W and 357 SIG they've all worked fine for me. Not to violate the "Where ...

bendable, All of the big three ammo makers offer a "reduced recoil" round for tactical/LE use. The benefits are improved patterns, lower recoil, and reduced time to get back on your target. Simply put you don't need magnum loads for defensive use... Wes

One could want non +P for an older 9mm or want the deeper penetration of the heavier bullet. The 147gr bullet will have less recoil than the +P round.

Interesting. Because I've wondered if creating an 'S'-shaped vent or two in the bullet ( FMJ) would create a sort of hurricane effect. Thinking more twist, more stabilization. Would love to try it. Not because of the Hirtenberger/Fiocchi EMB or Powerball similarity but the vents.

This gets asked a lot. There is no consensus. Most will chose their "personal defense ammo" based on what they read on various forums on the internet. You can go out to the websites of each manufacturer and get ballistics information of their products. FEDERAL, REMINGTON, CORBON, SPEER, WINCHESTER, HORNADY, MAGTECH, DOUBLE TAP, BUFFALO BORE, etc Scroll down through a few threads/pages in ...

This question always causes a lot of debate with more heat than light generated as a result. In general, though, 9mm is indeed cheaper and easier to find—except when you try to get the premium +P+ 9mm stuff that's supposed to be "almost the same" as 357 SIG. Based on my velocity measurements out of P229 pistols, 9mm 124 grain +P Gold Dot produces about 400 foot-pounds of energy. A 357 SIG 125 ...

I used to shoot these in my 7-08 for High Power Silhouette. Rifle was a Remington Varmint Special I modified with an H&S Stock, 2 ounce trigger and made it into a single shot. The rifle would shoot single hole groups at 100 yards from the bench. I would buy 500 rounds at a time and weigh them all and then put them into groups for loading but never shot a 5 shot group using one round from each ...
