Product photography set design
Published (2009-11-19 16:42:00)
I've been looking for books or other resources on product photography that deal with multi-item set design. No luck. I'm looking to move on from single or multi-item simple setups to more complex settings with tips on how to create dramatic "stages" for product photography. Also info on tools used for holding products in precarious positions. Thanks in advance...Brian

Doug, Your welcome. I forget how I stumbled across flashzebra but have been a very satisfied customer. Lon is the best.

Best Flash Triggers??
Published (2009-11-16 20:18:00)
Hello I would appreciate anyone's explaination and advice on best purchase for my needs in regards to triggering off camera flashes. I have only used my Canon speedlite flash (430ii) on camera in the hotshoe but as I'm wanting to learn architecural and real estate photography I have purchased another flash (580 ii) and I understand that I need a flash trigger to send and receive the signal to set it off. I may need another flash but...

Sekonic RT-32 Radio transmitter...

I bought this RT-32n for my Sekonic l-358. Right out of the box it rattles. the effective range is about 1 meter. I know the obvious but does anyone else have one that also rattles?

There are cheap ways of doing this but first, I would recommend either RadioPoppers or PocketWizard or Canon St-E2. These may be out of your price range but most pros will tell you to pay the $$$ and you'll never regret it. For cheap (that's me too) the options are: ebay radio slaves (get 16 channel) or similar items sold by B&H or CyberSync from Paul C. Buff. Some people have had problems...

I love the 24-105 as my general use lens. It's a walking around lens, albeit a little bulky. When I was a Nikon user, I had the 28-70, and although it was an excellent lens, it didn't have enough range for me. The 24-105 fulfills 90 percent of my needs. Wish I could afford to buy your 28-70, though, as I know it's an excellent lens.

Yes, I would shoot in RAW mode, unless you have an immediate need for the image, or if you can process the image right away. You will get good backstage flash results with a powerful flash used in bounce mode with a diffuser, so I would suggest the 580EX series of flash. It will appear very top heavy on the 450D, so you might want to consider a flash bracket which converts for horizontal/...

Clearly, the display profile you're winding up with is garbage. There are various possible explanations, including the possibility that your calibrator is defective. Other possibilities include Windows 7 compatibility problems and misuse. Do you have access to alternate hardware to try?

I'll take a stab at some of these. Most pros still use flash meters in the studio. Yes, you can use a grey card, Drew's Color Parrot or whatever you please. I use a Kelvin setting of 5300 deg for everything in my studio but that's my setting, yours will not be the same. Once set, it should remain the same unless you paint the walls or go on location where you get bounce effecting the ...

Hi I new, here, so bare with me. I had a portrait studio thru 2000. The time I closed down my studio(had baby) was just about the time digital was starting to take over. I always shot Medium Format (Mamiya645)as I sold large wall portraits. I'm now wanting to reopen a studio. Since I've been out of the biz, for quite some time, many things have changed. As I'm starting to research ...
