I would say that as it is a first attempt I would look to get the lighting and general feel rather than recreate a classic shot ... to much to compare and probably disappoint. The main thing I notice looking at old photos is how harsh the lighting is apparently they didn't use light modifiers like they do now and shadows under the nose and chin where the norm. I know nowt about photographing folk apart from what I have read so bear that...

I doubt f1.8 will give you enough dof for kid & santa unless they are on exatly same plane, I'd be looking at 3.2 or so here (other more experienced togs can correct me though as I may well be wrong!) what about a reflector and high iso if no flash, you could try that? can you visit beforehand to try out some test shots?

HI Mick I'll tell you a little story. Years ago when my bro was married to the wicked witch of the west, she was a trainee hair dresser. She thought nothing of buying a pair of hairdressing scissors that cos 150 quid or a professional hair dryer that cous 200 quid but when he( who worked his arse off) wanted a guitar or some fishing gear she would kick off about it.Add into the mix two kids who the the brats from hell and a mum who...

I would shoot it outdooors and get someone to allow you to use a classic car from the era, they will probably jump to the opportunity if they get some nice pics in return, something like a big convertible beast. Also I would shoot somewhere either by the beach or in or near some old buildings so the background is timeless and can't be dated.
If in the studio I would use some of the film ...

From what I have read here and elsewhere that is a good lens you have got yourself.
I'm loooking for a secondhand Sigma 20-40 f2.8 DG which is a discontinued lens but do you think I can find one?

OK, I looked long and hard into this myself.
The Sigma 10-20mm is probably the best ultrawide for the money you can buy.
It always wins the top spot in magazine UW lens tests.
It wins because of it's build and image quality AND it's low cost.
However, mostly (not all but usually) the Canon gets better marks for the image quality.
Internet review sites waver between the two.
But it's a ...

The F90 is a good choice, and can be grabbed quite economically from fleabay. Other choices could be any on the old Minolta series. Sorry, I gave mine up a few years ago, and moved on to digital, many many years after most of the pros did. Last one I owned was an Autoreflex T, which worked absolutely super.

Yeah, and I guess that's not the low dispersion special lenses either
Almost makes the lenses seem value for money now..

If I were you, go and have a look through Google, start with the Wikipedia first and then get involved from there. The image style from a Holga is 'unique' and is very subjective. You either like them or you don't, is the opinion I have found about them, not any middle ground.
I personally like the images that are created off of a Holga, it is quite refreshing in the world of ultra high ...

you need lighting to go with it if you want to acheive the "professional" outcome. i suggest making sure you have enough light at the correct angle, have the right setting on the camera, NOT full auto, use manual setting ( if any)
are you using an SLR, not familar with your type of camera.
please elaborate your setup
thanks

Hi everybody!!!
One year late I bought my camera and joined in forums and photography in a club to learn and improve myself. I also studied using books and magazines.
I took many photos in TF shoots with beginner and professional models.
Now, one year late, some models call me to take photos of them and they liked my photos, but it's still TF.
I know I'm not that ...

As you are considering submiting the image to a stock library, this is a quote from Alamy.
