I'm looking at the Oracle Technology Price List and I can see that VM Management Pack is licensed on a per-CPU basis, based on the number of Oracle VM Servers in your environment.

Storage Migration
Published (2009-12-18 11:30:00)
Actually, I just tried this, and it doesn't quite work for a running guest using a file: based disk image. You would need to stop the guest, create a loop device for the disk image, create an md device on top of it, then restart the guest using phy:/dev/mdX. That's only a few seconds of work, not counting the shutdown/startup of the guest. A guest which already uses a phy: disk image can be live migrated with its image to another...

Looks like the original OVM is dominant. Any time I requery the OVS's from the original OVM it makes the new OVM list the servers as unreachable. I could shut down the original OVM services and rename that host and then rename the new host (& likely reinstall OVM) & then import my backup. That being said, I really don't want to rename the new OVM the same name as the old OVM so I guess my best bet is to go back and: - On the...

Oracle VM Server Sata 3

So I replicated the original poster's problem. I was then hoping to get an UltraATA 133 PCI card recognized so that I could add more IDE disks, but that was equally useless. I'm sure there's a way, but it all comes down to how much time you've got on your hands... I surrender and am going the route of using an OpenFiler box to present iSCSI target luns.

Now I want to go to my guest's (linux) GUI or atleast a command prompt. Is it possible this? If yes how? Actually I don't want to do the VNC from another machine. Thanks for the help. Thanks, Dheeraj

I found the problem that cause the guest OS failed to start. It is because the vm.cfg contains a line 'maxmem'. The guest OS can be started after deleting that line.

The availability on whitepapers and best practices for Oracle VM is limited at this point. However, I would suggest some seperation between your hypervisor and your guests for both security and operational reasons. Oracle VM is based on the Enterprise Linux 5 kernel. Its hardware support is targeted toward enterprise systems, not consumer hardware. I suggest you find hardware that works well with Enterprise Linux 5 update 3 or older. Such hardware should work well with Oracle VM 2.2 also.
