I'm not an infrastructure guy, so I'll ask the group. In a multiple server windows environment, what do you do to insure that the services are started correctly? For instance shared services before Essbase or EAS, etc. Asume Shared services EAS and Essbase (and FR/ workspace/Web analysis) are on differnt servers.

You can use the sc command. It's really pretty cool. See: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/kbase/WindowsTips/WindowsNT/AdminTips/Services/StopStartPauseServicesRemotely.html On my Vista (oh, how I curse it) laptop, I have SC. I am guessing that real Windows O/S's have it too. Here's the output from typing SC from the command prompt: DESCRIPTION: SC is a command line program used for communicating with the Service Control...

MDX member names

I use report scripts to export to text files, then import to Informatica, manipulate and then spit out another text file. I don't use MDX to export data. If you want to get it into a txt file, you would execute the MDX via a MaxL script and use the spool command to write the results to the text file. You would then have to parse the file because the spool command will result in some other content winding up in the file. Again, I think...

One note of caution on this. I had to do this and found that sometimes the compression gets set to none. I was pretty surprised when I ran a routine calculation and suddenly got a message from the admin saying we'd run out of disk space, and saw that we had 16 2gb pag files (should be 2). Check your compression settings. Sabrina

Note : Make sure that you have complete backup of everything
Now try the following:
1) Get essbase.sec from 2 weeks ago or the time it was working
2) Replace openLDAP files (bdb) from the same time frame
3) Replace HSS db with that backup from the same timeframe (the relational database)
4) Run synopenLDAP
5) Run refresh from hss in essbase
6) Test...

I think the reason why TIME is showing as #NOACCESS is because you need to include it in the filter deinfition. Try this:
Read - @REMOVE(@IDESC("TIME"),"2005 Actuals")
However if 2005 is the first member below TIME you may not get a value anyway.

If the two cubes are the same, you could just select the Idescendants of your smallest dimension for both the source and target. /You would not need to put anything on the mappings tab.
I will say partitioning is probably not the qucikest way to copy a cube. If they are on the same server, just use an application copy either through EAS or Maxl. The MaxL ...

You can write one startup / shutdown script that controls all hyperion services across multiple servers.
Just list them in the proper order and don't forget to add some pause statements between the services.

Can you paste the actual maxL command? It looks like a path issue in the script.

This question gets covered so many times, if you do a search you will find all the answers.
In summary use the migration wizard in EAS to migrate the applications, you will need to export your data and import into the new environment.

Hi Razeesh,
1. 256 columns was not a essbase excel add in constraint , but its of 2003 microsoft excel limitation,as it has 65,536 row limitation.
2. Coming to 2007, they have increased number of possible columns from 256 to 16384 ,so should be able to retrieve more columns technically. I dont see it as excel add in issue again. But i have not checked ...

#invalid is for use with slowly changing attributes. If an intersection does not make sense As example Bob was never the product manager for Colas, then #invalid shows.

Hi,
Just start a Maxl (essmsh) session from a command line, log into the essbase server and then paste the MDX;
e.g.
Loging admin password on localhost;
SELECT Year.Qtr1.Level.Members ON COLUMNS, Product.Levels(0).Members ON ROWS FROM Sample.Basic;
Ok?
Cheers

I dealt with this sort of thing by creating a second, dynamically calculated member that would perform the average. In my case, "Project" is the dimension where I need to see an average of Gross Profit % at upper levels.
IF(@ISLEV("Project",0))
"Gross Profit %";
ELSE
@AVGRANGE(SKIPBOTH,"Gross Profit %",@RELATIVE(@CURRMBR("Project"),0));
ENDIF
