Hello, Yes, if you are sure of the values to input there's no reason to change them. About the risk to loose data inside the database, the EM DBConsole store some datas inside the Schema SYSMAN, so this is the only data touched. If you recreate the DBConsole, you'll clean up the SYSMAN Tables. Else, there's also a directory structure with it, as it's a complete application. SYSMAN store also some files in specific...

Check if the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID environment variables are set correctly.
Also check if the database is actually running. Try to login this way:
$ sqlplus / as sysdba
If SQL*Plus replies with a "Connected to an idle instance." message, execute the "startup" command.

Last time I checked, even CentOS came in different versions. DO you happen to have a version number attached to your distro? It might be useful and I could not see one in my quick skim of your post.
Another thing that would be useful is to set according to the 10gR2 specs at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/insta ll.102/b15660/pre_install.htm...

Hello,
"maximum user processes" is a OS Kernel Parameter.
So you must set this parameter (as you had to do during the prerequisite step) and you may have to reboot
your server.

Hi,
can u check the Installation log file or paste the late 20 lines from the INstallation log file.
Please check whether other oracle which is running may be running one same listener port. Try to change the port of the listener and restart the Installation.
