getting to heathrow by car? because you can base yourself near any tube and get to heathrow easily maybe if you give us an idea of budget, and what you want near your accommodation might help us (ie just a tube to get out of where you are staying or do you want facilities nearby, like pubs, restaurants etc?)

The offer is still there. Go to superbreak.com and look for Heathrow hotels with 'no parking'. Parking is available actually for £6.00 per day and there is a bus service(£4.00) to Heathrow

By spring time/Easter I can't imagine the flooding having much (if any!) impact on tourism in the area - the water will have been gone for months by then.

Thanks for this. Just a word of caution but if you book the cheaper room you cannot cancel the room under any circumstances.

Can't help with the circus I'm afraid, as it's new this year and I haven't been yet! From last years experience, it is indeed very busy, and I would recommend pre-booking the ice rink as it was sold out when we got there last year! I didn't bother with the big wheel, as to be honest, you won't see a lot apart from the rest of the Winter Wonderland.
Food-wise, if you just want snacks, there is...

Which venue,
do you mean NEC?
We are going this weekend to the Campanile for £1 per night.
I don't know whether that offer will still be on but it's worth checking.
Also check the travelodges as they have good sale price.
Not the most luxurious hotels, but if you are paying £9 then you can make up for it elsewhere and they do good family rooms as well ( double bed plus fold down sofa).

The castle area will be closed off for the fireworks display and you'll need a ticket to get on Princes Street. The best place to see the fireworks would be from Calton Hill
As for where to eat, try some of the restaurants near the Playhouse like Mama Roma, Vittoria on the Walk, Giulliano's, Barony, Olive Branch, Massimos, Basement Bar,

Gullivers Travel are the worst people to book hotels through, as they don't have any "links" into hotel booking systems, or send hard copies of reservations like most other travel agents do. They rely on people manually checking with them to see if any reservations have been received, which is obviously an absolutely farcical way to run a travel agency.
That said, the front desk staff in any ...

I have only been to Bristol once and we stayed in the Ibis, it was very new and we had a good experience, it wasn't too expensive if I recall correctly.

The tube is very easy to use. I would advise you to plan your journeys in advance and if you are coming at Easter time check that there are not closure on certain lines( as they often do track work over Easter), you can plan an alternative route.
www.tfl.gov.uk use the journey planner and download a tube map. You can also use the advance journey palnner route or googlemaps to plan a walking ...
