Hi Gerbera, Heinz has hit the nail on the head. Call charges have not increased to 0844**** and I apologise if you were told otherwise by a member of BT staff. If you would like me to check out a particular number then please email me btcare@bt.com with your details and I'll be happy to advise you and everyone here of the price. Regards, Jon.

No dial tone on BT line
Published (2009-11-27 18:08:00)
Why don't you just report a line fault? BT will then run the remote tests to see if there's a visible problem. They only charge if they come out and the fault is downstream of the master socket. If you are testing from the first incoming socket and there is no NTE5, it must be a problem on their side of the netrwork I assume you have tried another handset? Changing your provider won't help, as the fault will still be there!

And when you email BT ask them NEVER ever to phone you under any circumstances to do with sales, services or anything else not directly important to your account (eg a problem). And also not to pass your number to any organisation other than the law might permit. I asked BT never to phone me 10 years ago and they never have since.

Is it just your telephone you want to transfer, or are you also looking at getting Sky TV? I got a good offer from Sky a few weeks ago where they offered to do my BT Line free of charge. I'd still have a £69 setup fee for their services (TV, Broadband and Telephone), and I was looking to get their top package at £80ish per month (still am, especially now Virgin Media have agreed not to penalise me for leaving before my contract...

I do not use a landline phone at all - free mins on mobile - but need a line for broadband. Use alot of broadband and need an unlimited download limit. So, should i go with a combo package, individuals? Any...

Like all the other line providers now in the market, Sky could do what you want. Whether they will or not is another matter though (it's likely to cost them money to take over the line and they don't like that).

Someone has connected the wrong lines either in the street cab or exchange. If they pay BT for their line rental, they need to phone them,if they pay Sky,then they have to call....Sky. Sky's contact centers dont have E-Mail (well, the one I worked in,BBand Tier 2 & 3 did'nt) they all go to customer services so dont hold your breath on a reply.

The OP agreed to the charge subject to BT being correct about there not already being a phone line in the property. They were wrong. Imagine if your PC broke and you phoned up the manufacturer, they said "Sorry, out of warranty, but we'll fix it for £x". You reluctantly agree, but when you get a call from the person fixing it, it turns out you actually had a 2 year warranty. Do you really ...

Hi Moginstein I am really sorry but the 1280 prefix no longer does the trick in all instances. I imagine this might be the reason why your 9 chargeable calls were not logged . There is some info on it here: http://www.calls.bt.com/1280/?s_cid=con_FURL_calls _1280 I hope this helps clear things up. Cheers Craig BT Support

The MSE CallCheckers quote the cost of calls using BT residential landlines. Virgin Media charges considerably more for calls to 0844 ranges of numbers (6 times more - 3p/minute instead of ½p/minute for calls to the 0844200 range for example). They didn't get the reputation as being the most expensive voice telephone company in the country for nothing.
