Average Electric & Gas Usage

Helena is right, For a gas heated property where heating hasn't been used the gas readings make a lot of sense, however the electric readings are quite high, and something needs to be looked at. Take up Helena's offer of speaking with their energy efficiency team and seeing if that consumption can be cut back - in most cases large savings can be made without too drastic a change in lifestyle. In addition see if you cna take...

Welcome to MSE! Write a letter of complaint to the housing association about their contractor and ask them to investigate the matter thoroughly. Might also be helpful to thank the staff at the HA who bent over backwards to get you heaters.

Welcome to the forum. I am not sure I fully understand your post. It looks as if there was confusion originally about a Metric meter or an Imperial meter. Assuming you have been paying EDF for some gas, it is simply not possible to run up an additional bill of £1,200 since last November. I don't see how your new supplier can possibly work out how much you owe your old supplier. He would need to know your start reading last November, how...

The offers are for switching to a new supplier. They are not available if only changing tariff. But at least the change of tariff should take effect immediately so no need to wait six weeks. So at this time of year that's a bit of an extra saving.

Hi Webbo1981, I’m surprised the E.ON agent the landlady spoke to refused to change the meter, if you were to move in and open an account in your name, we wouldn’t refuse the meter exchange. However the £50 charge would be requested. E.ON request the £50 charge for all non-essential meter exchanges, this is to cover the engineer costs. There maybe some suppliers that does not charge for this work and who may exchange the meter for free....

My son moved into his first home last Saturday. British Gas were the suppliers apparently. On Monday he phoned British Gas and gave them his opening meter readings - paperwork should come through in about 10 days he was told. He was put onto standard tariff as he wasn't sure whether to stay or go at that point. He's going to stay till spring and then switch so asked to be put onto Websaver ...

Why phone in response to such a significant letter? If this goes to court your friend will need a paper trail proving his willingness to pay. You cannot use the ombudsman service until you have exhausted the in-house complaints procedure.

Welcome to the forum. It would appear that you are not disputing that you had these 2 accounts, but simply disputing the amount you owe - if anything. It does seem rather strange that BG still have these accounts on their files. The normally pass delinquent accounts to a DCA. All you need to do is get BG to to produce bills and then settle them unless you have proof that the bills ...

I know they charge.... a lot..... but this took my breath away. Ok it concerns a ground floor flat. All the other flats have their meters in a cabinet in the communal basement area. The meter wasn't a problem until the flat was done up. The living room door and frame was very narrow, too narrow - when the stud wall was extended to allow a normal door opening, we discovered the main gas ...

First I'd take meter readings and submit them online to find out how much you owe. I'd phone Atlantic Energy and explain your situation. If there is a reason you can't pay explain. It's much cheaper for them to arrange some compromise with you than to end up taking you to court. Depending on how much you owe and how much you offer to pay they may ask you to fill in a income and expenditure form...

1) Did you register with an elec supplier or was the bill in the landlords name? 2) If it was in his name he has the problem but may presue you for the amount. 3) If the bill was in your name you should have reported the meter problem regardless of what he said. 4) You used the power you will have to pay for it in the end.

I don't know why this happens either. If I have used a bit of emergency and put money in, it says emergency is on, when I have put more than enough for the emergency and should be 2 or 3 quid in credit. If I then put a fiver in, it says £8 in credit. It may be to do with how it calculates it, but it drives me nuts, especially when I am rationing what I put in.

Economy 7 offers cheap rate electricity for 7 hours of the night. Usually used to heat storage heaters overnight, but could be for an immersion. If you have neither, you are on totally the wrong tariff and paying a premium for your on peak electricity. If you are on E7 your meter will have 2 sets of numbers for reading, and your bills will show 2 charges, one for peak rate and one for E7. Also,...

I hope you took the persons details, their name and ID number, if you don't have it, they can still trace the call by giving them the date of your call and your account number. I'd lodge a formal complaint immediately. BG are not the cheapest for PAYG gas so I hope you have applied for their Essentials tariff. If not either apply for it or look at Ebico, they are often cheapest for PAYG ...

The main disadvantage of combi's is that some of them would struggle to run two hot supplies at the same time, so for example, are not perhaps suitable for a house with two bathrooms. The advantages are, you would lose the two tanks in the loft, along with the cylinder in the airing cupboard and associated plumbing. Also, as the hot water is on demand, you never run out, so it's easy to run two...
