Just grabbed a 2.2kg piece of beef for just over £9 and a 1.4kg smoked gammon joint for £3.74. Beef has now been cut in half and both have been frozen ready for use over the next few weeks.

OP, maybe you should point out in the title that these are Free Range birds? It's not often that they are reduced and more peeps would be interested in the welfare aspect than the feed (IMO). Thanks though.

Its false economy buying cheap meat. The cheap burgers, mince are full of fat/muscle/tissue, scraps etc you wouldnt eat it if you knew what they shoved in them mechanical machines that get every ounce of meat from bone

Avoid the value mince from any supermarket - the fat content in there is too high, and being mince, probably gives them license to put in less desirable things. However I will have to disagree with others here and say that generally, so long as you can see the cut of meat for yourself, value meats are fine.

I go for chickens fed on BELUGA caviar eating lobsters Seriously though, asked the manager about this this morning, hadn't even got the price marked chickens on the shelf in Sandhurst when I was in. Have to admit they do not look that good though.

Well, situation is resolved, I guess...the delivery driver lied and claimed he'd tried to deliver but I wasn't in so the order was cancelled - I only found this out when I called this morning. Driver never bothered to contact me, even though I was in all evening. ASDA customer services called the store twice, and eventually sided with me as they couldn't get a straight answer out of local ...

Why have you labelled the Lidl Comte de Brismand champagne as the top deal? Because it's the cheapest? Hardly the best recommendation. I'd much rather pay another £4 and get the Nicolas Feuillette at Morrison which is an outstandingly good champagne at a ridiculously low price.

I find the best day for delivery for me is on a Thursday, got all the food for the weekend. I shop between sainsburys, tesco and asda, depending on best offers of what normally get. I then go online shove about £25 in my trolley, usually epensive stuff, just to get a booking slot, then i take the expensive stuff out of the basket once i have my delivery date. Throughout the week i ...

I think Coop generally does: 25% night before Use by date 50% off by lunchtime ish 75% off by 6pm ish 90% of just before closing This would be for meat, veggies etc. Bread is same reductions but bread has two dates on, and the first date is used for reductions (in other words when you get reduced bread it will normally still have another couple of days).

I don't buy cheap meat, or ready meals. I do use Smart Price (or equivalent) cordial, crisps, cereal (asda coco pops are lovely), swiss roll (cut in half to take to work) Everytime I shop, I try something from the range - I found I hated the peanut butter, so I knew not to buy that again. Only trying one item every shop meant not wasting money, but knowing whether I liked it

Right there with you! We decided to downsize our shopping right down to see what was good etc and when I cooked the mince I thought it smelled like dog food and couldn't take more than a bite. The one I use now is the asda own frozen one that had a red banner (can't remember whats it called) that I keep in there for when I forget to take out something to defrost. The tuna is not so good either- ...

Its not identity theft, and there is little proof the initial cause was in the tesco store. Your card could have been skimmed the previous week or earlier.

how do you get to all these stores? its possible any saving might be shaved off by petrol costs - I realised it was easier to stick mostly to one shop unless I happened to be in the area of another one.

On £10 I wouldn't be able to buy everything I need if I didn't have some items in as a store cupboard, I find some posts misleading as they are not starting from scratch, reductions are not plannable as we get none here worth having. We get 10-15% off at best unless there has been a massive over order on something then it's maybe from £2 to 50p. Washing up liquid isn't essential. Toilet rolls we...

Suggest you pop into the Old Style board as there's tons of help and advice about budgeting, meal planning, cooking from scratch, batch cooking etc and most people are very friendly and helpful. Secondly, don't be afraid of cooking and of making mistakes - even the best of us do it at times (she says, while ruefully surveying the blackened remnants of a pot of sushi rice she forgot about!...
