ChrisR - edit out the locations, pls. It wouldn't take Einstein to identify who this is about. Apart from that, string it out, not signing. Suggest she looks for another job if 0 hour is unacceptable.

I was in a similar situation. I asked for my position on the list under the data protection and was told what number I was and how many there were. Maybe work a try. As far as I know there is always a waiting list. I know some people who've been on for two weeks or over 5 months. See where you get with what I suggested.

I would certainly NOT "demand" an increase or backdating of your salary – you have no legal rights to be paid the same as other team members and as you have already been told to "consider your future career", I think you'd be a fool to try forcing your company's hand. Your salary, even at £1,100 LESS than the next lowest, is likely to be far higher than the money you'd get on JSA... Instead...

Have you thought about having some kids to keep you company? Of course you get paid to have them too but that's not really a good enough reason for having them. It would mean that you have to look after them though which can be quite tiring.

Damn, that's a rough tale. I'm not sure what the immigrant had to do with it though. If you're on your probationary period, there's not much you can do really unless he'd been there more than a month. Irrespective of his probationary status, he would be entitled to a weeks notice if he'd worked there for a month of 'continual service' A few links: http://legal-news.ashbycohen.co.uk/e...of-...

I would hand out leaflets for elocution lessons, then spend a day correcting peoples grammar when they say anything. Finish it all off by putting in a complaint to your managers manager complaining about the fact that he sounds like common riff raff and it is displaying a negative image for the company. But then I am the confrontational type.

Im glad you found employment and JC staff help you out but just to put something into context (without tempering your praise for the JC) 8 weeks means that you have been there 8 times to sign on for 5minutes (max) at a time? Yes the JC probably gets bashed more than it deserves - but under 13 weeks you really dont get start to receive the blunt stick treatment. The JC and Jobseeker ...
