Most definately. If you rake the hell out of a lock like it owes you money, the pins will be oversetting all over the place, you won't have any idea what's going on in there and you won't learn anything either. This leads to frustration, and even heavier raking, which leads to broken picks and possibly damaged pins aswell. Raking isn't about sawing through the pins, it's about gliding over them gently with the pick at...

UH Oh, hes talking about a technique of force and counterforce, this will open some locks that have no security pins, but I think our impatient friend is starting to get a bad habit of forcing things. You need to lighten up, sand your picks smooth and sit in front of the tv with a favorite program to distract you while you simply explore the pin movements with a light tension, while not focusing on the picking, just lazily feeling pins and...

I second you, Ray: if I'm having an hard day I like to pick a difficult lock while I'm thinking about something else. The TV works well, but I prefer to listen to the music and keep my eyes closed, comfortably on my sofa Cheers

Waaaay off. I'd try and explain, but without diagrams it's kinda tricky. They're very simple mechanisms and are easy to pick since only one part of the key actually interacts with the bolt. Warding can be very complex and intricate though, so I imagine it's not always an easy task. Your warded master is a very simple lock to pick, since only the tip of the key actually does anything. It can be ...

Generally speaking, any padlock that size is junk regardless of who makes it (with the exception of abloy, apparently they make luggage locks with the protec in them ). They're ok to give you a general idea of tension and what it feels like when the pins are all set, but that's about it. They have really sloppy tolerances because the components are so tiny, which means it doesn't matter how much...

I realise this is a very old post, but I bet a lot of new members never saw this. It DOES happen - To me! I was in the Resident's Association house and saw the house keys on the table. I'm a locksmith - I cannot help it! I took a good look at the keys and was alarmed to see the Era lever lock key looked VERY familiar. To all intents and purposes my key and theirs were identical. The only ...

I had few problems with standard big size paper clips until I discovered the existence of jumbo paperclips. Paperclips n° 6 are perfect to build this tool, and one of those measures, once opened about 21cm length.

I don´t know that exact lock, but many cheap locks with that kind of keyway accept tri-circle blanks. I would try TRI-5D (JMA) / TL6 (Silca). If you can get measurments of keyway, I can check it.

Hmm, that's a bit different. I see what you mean about tensioning it, must have been a little awkward. I'm guessing it was easy enough to get the pins set, though. By the looks of the bitting on the key there aren't any deep setting pins, which I'm sure you're thankful for... the warding would have made setting those a bit of a pain. Nice find, thanks for sharing!
