T5 adapter / Demon 98

Okay think I'm goin fmartin_gila's way. Seems to be the most efficent, easiest, cheapest way. Do I need to move the transmission crossmember or does't line back up pretty close an the bell housing I need for the adapter, thats any 54-62 Ford car 3 speed manual.

I don't know about the mounts you are dealing with as I only do pickups. You need to email John to get the details of which trans to look for as to your application. Fred

Help with 215 tune-up
Published (2009-11-21 12:47:00)
I've posted photos of the carburetor on my 1953 Ford Truck 215 6-cylinder. I also added a photo of the exploded view of the carburetor from my 1953 Ford Truck Shop Manual. I believe the carburetor I have is the same in the manual. What it doesn't show is a spark control valve (see posts above). The manual list the part number for the carburetor as EAG-9510-B, but makes no reference to Holley or model number 1904. Check out these...

The y-block bolt pattern on the back of the engine is different than the 215/223 bolt pattern on the back of the engine. The trans bolt pattern for the 3 speed (car)trans is the same as the pickup.

There was also a 1 x 3 listed. Yeah, there are nuggets mislisted. Sometimes on a niche item of value they fail to have a reserve or minimum bid. One custom built '56 Ford p/u worth maybe $45-50k listed NO RESERVE, opening bid $1,000. State his value in description. That scared bidder off and they did not note there was no reserve. No bids, sent e-m to seller explained his mistake and suggested he pull before anyone bid. The temptation was...

Low fuel pressure or restriction?
Published (2009-11-26 16:23:00)
Have you tried blowing the line out from the engine back with the tank cap off and then checking pressure? I have an 59 jeep that is my daily driver with a gunky tank and every so often I blow it out and change the filter, It's getting a new tank this spring. Otherwise a bad flex line as mentioned might be the trouble, I've had problems with flexable brake lines acting like a one way valve by blocking flow back. One other thing, what...

Low fuel pressure or restriction?
Published (2009-11-24 09:32:00)
If there are any of the original braided, flexible fuel hoses still in place they are subject to internal collapse under the suction of the pump. It happened to my '58 F-100 with the stock pump. The truck would run out of fuel and stop dead. A little air pressure to the fuel fill or a couple hours parked would correct it temporarily. Once I replaced the original hoses it was fine and has been ever since. Sometimes having an electric pump...

Afraid I don't have much to offer but I, at least, wanted to let you know someone read your post! I've installed a lot of headers (including full race tubes) but never on a 215-223-262. Sometimes chassis modifactions were required but never in such depth as you describe. I suspect those headers only fit 54-64 and there is a mistake in the catalog. That doesn't explain why it won't fit the engine...

Can't offer any help with the carb, but I do run a Pertronix I with matching coil. Very easy install, slight improvement in mileage and ease of starting, and most of all trouble free. I did pick up a Mallory dual point centrifical distributor some time ago that I figured to use if I ever decided to change to a different type carb. I am still running the Holley 1904 carb and the LOM distributor...

Howdy Back Rusty: Your carb typically has a SCV and my bet is that it's blown- causing high vacuum and advance at idle and no power under load. Being it is in a truck may raise an exception, so the best, first step is to verify what carb (SCV or Non-SCV) type and distributor ( LoM or Non-LoM) you have. Adios, David

I've seen flanges once on E-Bay but I don't remember the manufacturer or even if it was mentioned. Sanderson makes a reasonably priced header. Probably not worth the effort unless you can't find a header to fit.
I believe 2 intakes have been welded together to make one dual carb intake but that's about all I've seen. Considering the cost of any of the intakes (& carbs) I've been thinking ...

Best way to slow down the RPM's and keep very stock appearance would be to find and install a Borg-Warner 3spd w/OD. Next best would be to install a T5, but this will have to be floorshift. Fred

I can't say for sure but I'm working on a 223 and thought I'd go with the 3 because the setup is similar to stock with the center carb being used as normal and then the other 2 kicking in with a progressive linkage. 3 looks a bit cooler too. I don't have mine done yet so I can't say how it will work but hope to know this spring. Brad
