you dont need the port divider, but some people install it to improve exhaust flow in those ports. the improvements in power are not much, and probably not worth the effort for a street engine, but if you are going racing, you need every bit of help you can get.

True. Well, I plan on getting in there this weekend and trying to see what I can find. I definitley don't want to go burning up any valves or anything. Thanks for the help and ideas. I'll post whatever I find... If I find anything at all....

I actually wanna pull the electric choke off my of my Holley 4V carb. Problem I have is when I drive on cold days, especially on the highway, the electric choke won't stay warm enough to keep the carb from rechoking (is that a word?). I'm going to stick a manual choke on there eventually.

one more try? Pioneer Parts#PF-200-25 If not I'd do some research, calling your cam supplier to see what matl. it's made of and then go through mcmaster.com or grainger.com and see if you can find one(or a pack of 100)... Stephen EDIT: Also, I havn't R&R'd a dowel pin before but when my machinest got my cam, he said it didn't come with one(Erson cam) and asked if I had a problem with him drilling a...

If you haven't done it yet, purchase The Ford Falcon Six Cylinder Performance Handbook. First, I'd change out the ignition to a least a Duraspark; DUI from Classic Inlines if you have the cash. Second, change out the 3spd for a T-5. Your choice of a T-5 from a 4Cyl or V8 depends on your rear end gearing; 4Cyl up to 3.20, V8 above 3.20. These two things will give you a good performing freeway cruiser with increased gas mileage. Best...

Well, my machinist and I just gave up trying to put a CFI injection unit on my log head. even though it was already modified for a direct mount weber, there are some weird undulations on my particular log (that don't sound right ) that would have called for creative engineering that I didn't want to pay for. Your might be different. There is also a weber 2v FI unit out there that I've never been able to get a good look at or...

Exhausting Question
Published (2009-12-16 08:45:00)
About time to run the exhaust on my project in sig line. Clifford dual outlet 2 1/4" header. Routing is a problem on this thing due to having a transfer case. I was thinking about a single muffler. Both Magnaflow and Flowmaster make a dual in/dual out 2 1/4" muffler. Just not sure if they are actually two seperate mufflers in one or combine inside muffler. So should I X-pipe them? I know I need to reduce down to 2"...

a ticking sound usually indicates excessive clearance. you might have a slight exhaust leak that crops up when exhaust pressure hits a certain level. another issue might be a dirty lifter, or a bad valve spring. usually if the valves are set too tight and the valves are hanging open, the engine loses power due to a loss of compression pressure.

I was thinking about doing that to mine before I realized I just needed to replace my exhaust manifold and solve all my problems at one time. I was fairly certain that a later 70's electric choke coil would work fine. I think I was looking at one off a fairmont with the 200 in it. They are like $50, and that was more than I wanted to spend just to see. What you really need to look at is the ...

get yourself a mechanics stethoscope and try to determine just where the noise is coming from. it sounds like perhaps you have a bad rod bearing, but without hearing the motor run in person i can only guess. a dull thud usually indicates a main bearing problem, a double tapping sound from the bottom end usually indicates a rod bearing problem. the flywheels in these engine are pretty tough ...

This is my first venture into the inline 6 world and decided on the build in my sig line with the help of this forum. Just turned 60 and didn't need the high rpm/hp. the dual in dual out muffler is a single muffler, just with two openings on each side. if you use this muffler you dont need an X pipe as the muffler itself acts as an X pipe. it also simplifies the system, as well as making it easy to build a true dual exhaust system. as for pipe size, i would go with 2" pipe out the back. another option would be to use a Y pipe to go from a dual outlet header...

The harmonic balancers are not even close to being the same. The cranks snouts are different diameters. About the only thing that's the same is that they both use integral pulleys. I think the tranny to engine block bolts are 7/16-18 and about 2" long. Just going off of memory here so I maybe wrong. Will

i like the idea, you don't know how many times i've wanted to look up a specification that i couldn't find! certain subjects already exist in teh FAQ and/or stickys. the only potential concern i can think of with including wiring diagrams (and possibly even data) is that the book you copied it from is usually copyrighted, causing legal headaches to post an accumalation of their diagrams/data ...

I'm by no means an expert, but I would say the only way to tell would be to cc the chambers and compare to stock spec's for that engine.

congrats .I know that feeling and it's great .here are some tech tips from classic inlines for tuning the carb and timing with a vacuum gauge which in my opinion is the best way. http://www.classicinlines.com/Vacuum.asp . you can get a gauge at any auto parts store for about $25.00. or you can adjust the idle mixture screw all the way in lightly seating it ( too tight can damage the needle ...
