Well even for 1920x1200 (or 1920x1080) an HD 5870 is a bit more than you really need, though if you are specifically looking at a few games that do require the extra horsepower, it may be worth it..but on the whole, these resolutions at high detail (and most games with AA/AF and other eye candy knocked up) will still run smooth as silk on cards like the GTX 275/285, or better yet the HD 5850. I think the 5850 would be the better choice for...

well the stock Acer MB probably isn't HELPING your performance... although I don't think that's the main issue you're having... Honestly, I'd maybe look into a new GFX card. You can get an ATI 4870 for about the same price as the 9800's are going for, and be utterly blown away. Mine's taken everything I've thrown at it at full resolution and full effects, and keeps begging for more...

I personally always leave my main rig running....its been continuously on except for updates that required reboots for the last three years. When I get to my desk I am ready to rock n roll and get down to business. I have been told also that the startup of your HDD is the most strenuous single action that you can put it through...... My thing is if you have a rig that is generally ...

Ok so I thought Id update this thread even though there doesn't seem to be any interest. I've had a lengthy browse and have sortof come up with a solution: AMD athlon x27750 black edition (processor) msi 790 gx-g65 (motherboard) M-audio audiophile 2496 (soundcard) 4 gig of ddr 3 ram and a 400 gig hard drive any old graphix card that will fit the type ...

because if it wasnt static the IP can change leaving you wondering which machine youve actually connected to. in a home environment this may not be so bad as machines usually keep the same IP even with DHCP but on corporate networks where DHCP machines generally have a different IP address every day, it can still work, just required the user to know the IP address of the machine first....

Looks good But if it were me I would go for a Nvidia GTX 250 thats on the same site. ATI 4850 vs Nvidia GTS 250 Reveiw And the only reason I suggest that is because I see you FOLD...and the 250 will blow away the 4850 in PPD (your talking approx 4-5 k per day And with that triple core you can still run a SMP Not to mention that XFX has a lifetime warranty...

Considering that, in general, a laptop is a compromise between functionality and portability, the laptops I have owned/used have been reasonably well designed. What are your complaints, what would you like to see changed? Help me understand why you think there is a problem. Ben N1NP

I know this was a while ago, but no once else has taken a stab at it, soooo... You've tried processor swaps, but what about the RAM? If it's seeming stable with an 800mhz FSB processor in it, run a stress test or bench mark on the memory while the 800mhz is in. OR, since you were able to get ahold of different processors, maybe you can get ahold of a couple other sticks ...
