Of course, it is a personal opinion (my sincerest apologies). The thing is, in Vista, I just can't feel that I completely own the system. And you know what, I even prefer the Vienna Black Dream Transformation Pack, if you wish to have that "Vista looks" on an XP engine... Have you tried it?

Windows Vista Recovery Problem
Published (2009-12-21 07:05:24)
Given that HP ALWAYS come with a recover disc (no need to make one), would be encouraging the client to first dig through her cupboards to locate that original disc. As posted above, you can - in a bind - use a retail copy (as long as it is the same version of Vista pre-installed) to get Vista up and running, but this is not going to help in the long run. If she has truly lost her original restore disc, at some point she is going to have to...

It looks like a problem of DNS. Please check if you have setup the right DNS on the PC and on the router. In any case you can try to add a second DNS address to the PC. It could be like the googleDNS or openDNS.
Anyway I would write down the IP settings and do a reset of the router to factory state. Then add the IP settings back. If the problem persist then check the IPs with your ...

Not sure about Opera, but Google Chrome (in the case of some AV's) may require you to temp disable your Anti-Virus to perform a clean install. Once installed can re-enable Avast with no worries.

Ya, I was kind of leaning towards getting Vista anyway, since it is the newest one, and they might fix little problems with it later, while if I get XP, I'll feel like I am kind of stuck in the past.
While the things thompa listed are definitely annoying, they're smaller things, and I don't think they'll sway me away from the OS. Right now I feel like I'm just going to try Vista out...
