Thought of that, however, drives are from 3 different manufacturers. First one was out of a working computer and had been running fine.

Yes, crunchie is correct. You can use any card with the
PCI Express socket, you just cant do SLI on an AMD motherbaord, or crossfire on an Nvidia one. Ive got an geforce on an intel chipset myself.
And its not stupid question, indeed, its a very common one.

Thank You. I took the drive out and installed it into a
Dell Latitude D630 and got same result. Figures the day I planned to back all my music, videso, pics, school work up it would fail. Thank you for the suggestion. Honestly would never have thought to try it in another laptop.

I cant run chkdsk when i load the xp cd i get as far as the message windows is
starting up then the blue screen comes on again with the same message. I am really cheesed off now please help. PS i can only get into the computer if i log on through safe mode last known good configuration, then there no problem.

It could be faulty ram or ram not specific to your PC. Ram have different mhz. DDR400 is backward compatible so if you require DDR 333mhz, you can use DDR400 but you cannot use dDDR333 with DDR266 mixed.
If you are using AMD and a Nvidia video card you need
ATI video card. There have been some compatibility erros when using Nvidia with AMD.
