She asked if "James" was available, I replied "speaking". She asked if I had time to listen for an explanation of the exciting changes coming to eBay. I stated that I wouldn't be using eBay anymore. She asked why, and I said "because they are making us use PayPal". She said "you don't have to use PayPal, you can set up a merchant account or use ProPay". I laughed and said "They aren't ...

I was just notified by Whitman publications that there is a new book by Q David Bowers called "Grading Coins by Photographs". For $19.95 and free shipping if you pre-order, I figured I would give it a shot. They also send a free book on Collecting State Quarters (oh...whoopee.... :p). I think delivery is in November for the new grading book. Maybe this will give my beloved and dogeared ANA ...

I recently sent in a coin for crossover. I thought it was a slam dunk for a cross at MS63, HOWEVER, NGC did not think so ... and they are sending it back. DO you think they should call their customers and tell them/US WHAT the grade was and ASK if they/their customers would still like it to be holdered at their grade estimate? . This being especially since TWO out of THREE persons thought this...

We see "original" bandied about here in threads. "Original surfaces, original rolls, original toning" etc. What does the term "original" mean to you when used in numismatics?

The simple question is, which equally struck Mint State coin would take longer to wear down in normal circulation, or in this case, first to reach say an XF-45 condition, the Franklin Half Dollar or the Roosevelt Dime? Or, would they both turn out to wear down at the same pace? Place your thoughts with the poll and your comments will also be welcomed. The stats: 1948 ROOSEVELT Dime Diameter:...

i mean like you only buy killer ultra cameo proof coins for your 19th century type set or for example you only want to buy killer rainbow toned coins for your morgan or eraly commem set or maybe you love gem circ. early copper coins that have great eye appeal with choice surfaces or maybe you just like coins with a thick original skin be it toned or not and circ or gem proof or mintstate...

With the many numismatic changes over the past several years: the Jefferson Nickels of 2004-05, the Presidential coin series, the four 2009 Lincoln cent variations. Does anyone know of an updated coin album like the Dansco 7070? Is Dansco planning on adding any of these representative coins to its type set? One could always purchase a blank page to customize, how are others handling this?

Well, I have my new Coin World with me on the kitchen table while I listen to TV news and see the stock market tanking again. What else is new... Anyway, P.14 in Coin World of October 6 offers a guest commentary by Victor Easley, "To CAC or not to CAC..." . In paragraph 4, Mr. Easley states, in reference to the CAC sticker, "Yet, it is not a perfect system. A CAC sticker by no means implies a ...

Today, I placed a (truly) rare coin with a client who had been searching for one for his collection for years. Precisely how many years, I don't know, but it was at least four, and probably many more than that. It was also one of a handful of dates lacking in his extensive collection. I didn't even find the coin for him. He saw it on a website and asked if I could view it for him. I did so, ...

So you're buying a coin at a new dealer you don't know but who has a good reputation. They've got list prices on coins and you need to make an offer. What is your perception of the typical process for the offer using the polls below? I'm just talking average here. I'm sure that there are always coins that they want to stand firmer on and coins that are better or worse priced. And of course,...
