thanks for the advice.. for some reason i just dont trust the CCFP lakes.. just seems infested with garbage and junk.. but i always see bucketheads taking fish out of there so it must be ok to eat.. i would go to fox but that is sorta far.. the lake county lakes seem so much cleaner and better to eat out of.. wish i lived up there

What's the story on Big Bend?
Published (2010-03-02 09:14:00)
Big Bend is nice size and depth but problem is that 1 or 2 times every year that the Des Plaines River get serious flooded and over the Big Bend Lake so fish swim all over and to the river. Some might stay in the lake and other to the river. Lot of carp is other problem. Some nice crappie in lake. 1 or 2 large northern pike is possible in the lake and lot of food for pike to eat in the lake. CCFP don't stock any fish into Big Bend and...

Driving by on Sunday Feb 28 at around noon, I saw about 3 guys walking (well sitting, really) on the water. Was not able to stop.

It's not the garbage in the water that scares me about CCFP, it's the proximity to Argon National and other major labs like Fermi Labs that keeps me from eating anything that comes from local waters. If your looking for gills though you could drop a wormed hook in damn near any body of water and find them, it's just the size that your going to catch isn't usually what most would consider filleting size. If the clarity of...

i fished for Hours at this little place as a kid. I only ever caught bluegill and bullhead when we fished there. Has anyone ever heard of any bass or channel cats in there? I think that those 2 species would do pretty well in there with the forage base present. tell me what you know about the place. thanks

Until I drove past it a couple weeks ago, I had never heard of Big Bend (the CCFP lake). The CCFP web site says there is fishing allowed there but I don't hear anyone ever talking about it. Any action to be had there for ice or open water fishing? Thanks, Schnoodle

Fished yesterday from 830 to 1130. Started in front of the boat launch in 16 feet no hits for an hour and got a tip from a guy leaving that he was getting bites off the south tip of the island. Right as we started getting our gear together we got our first flag which produced a 16 or 17 inch pike that was released quickly so he could grow up. He was caught on a dead 6" roach. Caught around 15 ...

With all the rain we've had last Thursday and Friday, I expected the walleyes to be actively feeding to fatten up for the winter. The horizon was just just starting to lighten up as I parked and headed to my spot-just a 15 minute drive from the house. I had brought the usual ...

Whats the story with this lake? Is it public or private and is there any way of getting onto the lake (or ice)? I found it on lake link and after looking on Google Earth it looks like there is a swimming beach that would be open to the public. But today i drove to the lake to find that the gates to the parking lot locked with "No Tresspassing" signs everywhere. Does anyone have any info on ...
