I have the route commandin my example, but don't each interface need a route command? BTW, I posted this yesterday and checked the box to be notified on any updates. I never received any notification, does that work?

The config as shown will make any printers on the server available to all. Each user can pick a printer as desired. There are also ways to get Samba to serve up printer drivers. Thanks Phil I am going to work on this a bit more. Dev

I must confess that I do not understand the commands 'ifconfig' and 'route', because I do use 'ip' for both tasks. However, why the manual incantations? Why not trying to create right configuration files for the interfaces and let the 'service network start' call whatever is necessary?

If I disable the firewall, it works fine!!!!! So, I think I must configure the firewall in a suitable way.

Quote: update is overdue, but as that may be difficult without a network connection A perfectly valid comment. I was thinking in terms of an anaconda update from the 5.4 install medium but failed to say so. It's always useful to have somebody else watching over one's shoulder. Thanks Phil .

ppp0 and ppp1 keep switching around

There is more elegant solution eliminating need to modify system scripts. We can supply PROVIDER=international and PROVIDER=local options to corresponding configuration files, and then create /etc/ppp/peers/international and /etc/ppp/peers/local files containing unit 0 and unit 1 in them, correspondingly.

We've had good luck with the Intel PRO/1000 line. The e1000 and igb drivers seem fast and stable.

Actually, that's not enough info. There are pertinent settings in other sections. A few pointers: First, This page (at samba.org) has some sample configs, with other info at the site. Second, speaking from experience, make absolutely sure that the Samba box is the *only* "domain master." For example, one of your Windows server boxes might think he should be the master. Won't work! Third, ...

It is a matter of how the default route is set. How about adding 'GATEWAYDEV=eth0' into '/etc/sysconfig/network'? http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/5.2/Deployment_G uide/s2-sysconfig-network.html

You don't say what type of authentication you are using - that may be a key issue. As far as serving files Samba should be able to act as the server in the capacity you describe. OpenOffice deals pretty well with Word and PDF files, but compatibility with some features, particularly newer ones may be problematic. Microsoft seems to go out of their way to break compatibility with their pseudo-...

Might get better help if you referenced your earlier threads for background about what you are trying to do https://www. centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php ?viewmode=flat&topic_id=23753&forum=40 https://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php ?viewmode=flat&topic_id=23807&forum=40 and explained why the answers you got there were not sufficiently helpful.

Quote: 2.6.18-128.1.10.el5xen I see that you are running an old kernel from the CentOS 5.3 release, the usage of which is now deprecated. Please have a read of the CentOS 5.4 release notes and upgrade your system. Once that has been done, you should then be running the 2.6.18-164.9.1.el5xen kernel. With the up to date kernel you will be using the latest drivers -- so then check ...
