Hey, Thanx to all w/ your knowledge and assistance. today i changed to a different socket just for giggles, and to my suprise, it moved the shaft enough to get it seated properly. Sooo, distributor is in and will continue on w/ reassembly. Now, to hook up my HEI components....

Haha well it was a quick car for what it was. I built those kits when I was a bit younger. Here's a video of it with the single set up playing around on the street. Although my 95 with the little turbo would maul it it was still pretty fast. http://s234.photobucket.com/albums/ee237/79fairmont/?action=view&current=d5-8607252686mpg.flv

Sounds like the hex shaft has slipped out of the pump and is drilling the top of the pump. This could happen very easily if the "tinnerman" nut on the drive shaft is set too low. Get a 1/4" drive deep well socket and a long locking extension and turn the oil pump drive shaft with a speeder. If it turns real easy that's your answer. If the shaft is in the pump correctly then you should be able to feel the gears...

Yup I agree, shaft is out of the pump. Not real easy to get it back in, but use that socket and play with shaft alignment. You will know when it is in as it will turn , but with some effort.

In the event you pull the engine down in the future and have the pan and oil pump off, replace the oil pump drive with one of the aftermarket ones that are both tougher by far and also shaped so as to avoid this misalignment. That is, unless you enjoy the adventure....

The oil pump drive shaft isn't stuck in the bottom of the distributor is it? If it isn't then most likely the shaft just needs to be lined up with the hex in the distributor. Spin it over with a remote starter or have someone bump the key while you apply a little downward force and they usually go in. Good luck.

Yes, you can swap the main bodies and it won't effect the cfm of the carb. What changes the cfm is the stock base plate because they use different venturi diameters from the 650 to 750 carbs. If you wanted to keep the same main body you could probably heli-coil it though. Tater

670 Avenger sounds fine. Much better choice than DP for street IMO. I don't think you would have much to gain with switching to Xcelerator, though.

i'm with hotroady on this one, when the resitance at the starter windings go up because of heat, you need some hefty battery cables to pass enough current to turn the starter. my old truck used to melt cables and a starter relay when trying to start hot. normally a fresh starter replacment would cure it, but i had these monster battery cables off a diesel generator, that i ...

I have played with the 735 stock Holley on my 428 CJ. Larger primary jets did effect the idle. Stock on that carburetor is 66 primary and 79 secondary. I am running 68 primary now and am going to try 67. I know 66 was a little too lean. The 68 seems OK but I want to see if it will work a little leaner. I don't know if that information will help on the 750 DP Holley. When I got ...

set your initial back to 10 or eleven degrees then go back through your vacuum gauge adjustments on the idle air screws to fine tune a bit. Your plugs may take a while to burn off the fuel fouling though. stick with one adjustment at a time to avoid stacking blunders.
