I've always used cork. If it isn't
sealing try adding a washer under the cap nuts to get more compression of the gasket.

It's a very easy job. there is a spring clip that holds the cylinder onto the plate. when that comes off, it's a bit of a wiggle to get the cylinder out as there are 2 holes - one for the clip and one for bleeding the brakes. here is all you need to know. 1. keep the spring clip and use it for the new cylinder. - the one that came with the new one is cr*p don't

True but most have a regulator on board so your getting a moderen
electronic voltage regulator in the purchase.If your regulator works fine
then the Lucas may be the way to go. there really is no damage to the
harness I think you
just move some around in the regulator
connections.Theres severial sites that explain the procedure.

Yes and no, while this can contribute to this symtom, it's by no means the definate cause. A loose advance plate, either in the center or at the vac advance will do the same thing, a broken vac advance too. A bad
balancer will make it appear timing is changing also. ( I don't know if you have a rubber mounted balancer on this or not, as I have NO excperiance w/ 1098's.) A worn mechanical advace...
