Where to buy a 350 chev engine...

cost is an issue in that I'm going into this knowing it's not going to be a cheap exercise but I still want to stick to a budget. I'm trying to do as much research as possible so I'm happy with the decisions I make and want to avoid having to redo things.

yumpet, you can get new ones from Mascot Motors, but it is not worth replacing it. particularly, if you are going to put in gas - as you should! - you definitely want an electric fuel pump. the mechanical ones fail if they dont have fuel flowing through them. as i found out when i bought my car. i replaced the non functioning fuel pump. next time i went to use petrol, the new one didnt work either. i dont remember how long that was, but you...

CJ 10 Motor swap

4.0 is a dam good upgrade for the J10. plenty a thread on here and other forums wiith all the details. 258/6 is a good solid motor but old tech and you get more bang per litre from a 4.0 Option 2 Swap in a Nissan SD 33 turbo. The naturally aspirated Nissan sd33 donk was a factory option in the J10 Option 3 If the bottom end of the 258 is good and tight, head transplant a 4.0 injection head on to the top.

Yeah, an LS1/LS2 and a T700 or 4L60 would be sweet and this would be something I would love to do, would have to be Lotto money for me to do it as it would be drive in/drive out. AMC 360 are good motors, yep sourcing parts can be a bugger but you just have to wait a few days for them to arrive from the US. Can not fault the Ford Carby seems to work all the time for me and the old girl climbs some reasonably steep hills. I am dual fuel and the...

Straight out of the manual:
first letter: J (built by jeep)
2nd is the year it's built (eg 8 would be 197
3rd is transmission - A (auto), F (3 speed) or M (4 speed)
4th is model (should read 93 for CJ-7)
5th is GVM
6th is engine (A,C,E, H,N,P, or Z)
Then a 6 digit sequential build number.
This is out of an original ridgie didge factory service manual from the US from 1977.

Hey Maz, why not do a 360?
About the same price to rebuild and keeps it all Jeep.
I know where there's a few of them and some 727 trans and 208 transfers too.
Saves you the issue of then finding the correct T350 extension housing/output to hook up the transfer too.

Look into a chevy V8. Best bang for buck by far.
Unless you put the same 6 cyl motor back in (can be purchased cheap @ jeeepart) There are problems with retro fitting even the AMC V8 into the chassis which is just a Chero Chassis.
If you want more grunt go the chev. If you want cheapest find the 6 cyl reco at Jeeepart.
