1- Showthreads - Forumdisplay only
2- I suggest to let vBSEO calculate the priority just make sure this option is enabled in your vBSEO sitemap settings "Smart Priority"

We all have these in our keywords. post, thread, last post by, etc are all just
common words in the templates. I'm pretty sure google is smart enough to realize that these are common 'stop words' and they really don't have much ranking power.
If it did, searching for 'post' should turn up nothing but forums, right? post - Google Search

Ys, you can (and should) disable showpost. I recommend only including showthread and forumdisplay in the sitemap for any site that has a good amount of posts.

It would be nice if we could add pages on the fly to the sitemap generation utility. We can go into settings and add pages to be included in the sitemap, this would be great!

To answer your question: Yes, it is good to make threads have better titles.
I would say do it as often as you can.
