Watching it now. To be fair, they put on a big show, but the singing's a bit anaemic and they look like a GTA wardrobe change of what a rock star should look like. Hmmmm. A bit like New Order isn't it, technically superb but they clearly have a missing Ian Curtis or Nicky Wire in their charisma department. Erm. The crowd fucking love it though, and you can't argue with that.

I don't think Beirut sound like French music much (chanson, musette etc).
I'd say if you like Beirut and you haven't heard of these people, you could do worse than checking them out: Menlo Park, Devotchka, A Hawk & a Hacksaw, Calexico, Julian Gaskell & his Ragged Trousered Philanthropists. Maybe Gogol Bordello. Maybe Paolo Conte's 'Novecento' album. Maybe even Echo & the ...

I'm just staring at the moon
like it was yesterday
Mmm,see my face
Reflected in the lights
In the window
In the window pane
The trees outside are still
With a belly full of sleeping pills
I feel a little less pain
And you're just sitting in the sun
Watching the boats roll by
Boats chained to the pier
In the window of the boat
Theres a picture of your family

I've too many favourite Dylan tracks to name one, but one that's really got me recently is 'Red River Shore,' which AFAIK was written for Time Out Of Mind but wasn't included and wasn't released until last year. There's a slightly different version of it here .
A beautiful song, and the words are lovely:

1) If you want to take part you must send me a pm by midday Wednesday 4th November with an address (and some sort of name) that you're happy for CDs to be sent to.
