The power lock switch is right next to the power on/off switch. It's a left to right slide switch.

X61: Drastically Reduced Volume

Regarding Vista: negative - just plain old 32. The machine came from Lenovo with Home Basic, which IMHO is a crime against humanity, and I upgraded it to Ultimate early this year. I'll probably go with the 32 bit Win 7 as well; there doesn't appear to be any overwhelming advantage to 64 for her extremely modest demands on a computer. I'm hoping it behaves a little smoother than Vista; I'm getting really concerned by the...

Appreciate the offer and maybe I'll need to do that. For now, though, I'm going to try and solve this, here. Maybe I'll reflash the bios... if I can get the drive to read the the media, that is. I'm more concerned about the inability to boot from USB or the LAN than I am about the integrity of the docking station, to be honest.

Very loud noise from X61

The fan will only go 0 or 3000 RPM... there's no middle ground TPFanControl fixed the problem significantly when I set it to the default smart mode. Yes you are right, it is either zero or 3XXXRPM. But I don't think the fan is shut down even if it displays zero (otherwise it's too dangerous )....

Maximum X60s drive access speed?...

AvalonXIII wrote: To be honest, sequential transfer speed is not the most important performance parameter for a SSD. The only thing that is limited in older Thinkpads is sequential speeds. The random read and write speeds are more important, and they're not limited. You can still gain 90% of the benefit of the new SSDs that exceed SATA-I specifications. Hmm.... So how would a drive like this perform? Too much? Too little?...

Not a prob. Is she running an x64 flavor of Vista? I ask this as I just recently put Ultimate x64 on mine and this is a pretty good heads up for me if I end up encountering this problem once I turn on the update function.

sorry forgot to address an issue mentioned, what i am talking about and trying to create a fix for has nothing to do with the cells. in fact EVERY SINGLE SO SAY DEAD battery i have analyzed in great detail did not have a single faulty cell. now some did 'go bad' because of circuitry failure or 'most' went bad when the temp diodes blew meaning it got to hot anf for safety reasons it shut down. those 2 situations DO NOT APPLY...

I have a Windows 7 x64 on a thinkpad x61t. I noticed the bluetooth doesn't work when trying to pair a headset, and failed. At this time, there is no driver on lenovo's support site for bluetooth. I tried Vista drivers and they seemed to work fine. But I hope lenovo come out with Windows 7 drivers soon.

Are we talking about an X61 here? Notes: (*1) If Windows 7 (64-bit) or Vista (64-bit) is already installed on your system, then you must use the bootable CD ISO format of this BIOS update. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-67982

Theoretically it can handle half of that, or 150 MB/s. It is an SATA interface, not SATA II.

According to the Lenovo support site here you can call their 800 number listed below 24 hours a day 7 days a week. +39-800-820094 As far as quick diagnostics if you can check the voltage output with a multmeter. You can use the X200's a/c adapter with your ThinkPad. Brad

I bought an 8 cell through an Amazon reseller for my X60T. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ZZ ... oh_product It is made by AGPtek and after trying two of them, they nicely refunded my money plus shipping. It would die unexpectedly every so often when it got down to 50 - 70%. I went for a Lenovo battery from the outlet. I expect it to do better. Mike
