This thread should give you a fair bit of info: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=82773 It's for a T61, which is a very close sibling of the R61.

A31P Latches

Well, there is one thing that determines whether this is doable, and that is the shape of your hands, more precisely the size of your fingers. If you have a fairly delicate set of hands (I do for a male), you can lift the bezel very carefully , slide one finger to keep it above the screen, and then push the latch in or out holding the screwdriver in your other hand. I hope I've explained this well enough. If not, feel free to ask for...

A31P Latches

George, That sounds like an event you could probably sell tickets to I think for my first attempt, I'll stick with the longer way, maybe after doing a few dozen (like you), I'll be able to do the 3 handed replacement procedure with only my own 2 hands and screwdrivers and maybe a few chicken bones and feathers for good luck. Thanks! Greg

Hi. Yeah you're right, if I can't economically get the R50e running then it will be used as a donor. The A31p I would really like to get into action though, it fits too many of my requirements for a system to overlook and there is something quite timeless about the design too. Anyways I've got hold of a board with a 2Gz processor on it for the A31p at a decent price, so if she's running with that installed I'll post...

Take everything out (wifi card, modem, drives, RAM) and connect to a working AC adapter (16V, 4.5A, 72W). It should beep 1-3-3-1 for having no RAM. If you don't hear anything, your motherboard is toast

Welcome to the Forum. From your description, the seller has most likely ruined both laptops by hooking them up to a 19V power supply. Both machines require only 16V from AC-adapters, such as you described. Take all the batteries (main only), wifi-cards, modems, drives and RAM out. Then connect the keyboard and hook them up to the 16V adapter. Both should beep 1 short, pause, 3 short, pause, 3 ...

Welcome to thinkpads.com! What you need to do is to press the ESC key during the time that the IBM " splash" screen is displayed. What then happens is that a DOS-like display comes up with messages from the BIOS/system. That will enable the HMD to do its job.

Take a look at the parts list for options. If you replaced the original High rate wireless/modem Mini PCI combo card with a 2200b/g card, then you should be able to get an Ethernet/Modem Mini PCI combo card and a BMDC card and use that arrangement. If you do not need Ethernet, then you might want to give the BMDC200 card a try. I am not sure that it works, so maybe someone will see this post who ...
