I have some friends coming in from Shanghai this weekend and the first spot they want to check out is the Great Wall.

I'm just trying to figure out what it all means with the new 电动摩托车和电动轻便摩托车通用技术条件, or 电摩国标. Basically as of 2010-1-1 the definition of electric scooter/bike/moped/motorcycle is going to change from non- motorized vehicle to motorized (非机动车 to 机动车).
There is the question of what the two sub-catagories of electric motorcycle and electric moped constitute, and then if it makes a difference ...

I heard some rumors that a foreigner, legally employed (aka have a valid alien work permit) are allowed to import one vehicle duty free.
Not sure if this is true, and where to find out so figured I'd drop a line here.

Foreigners will love these. Basically it's the Honda Joker (Japan) or Honda Shadow (Europe), and they are modified to become electric. These are electric scooters and they are awesome. The base 500W48V20A version runs around 45km/h for up to 60km in summer/40km in winter. Up the battery to Li-ion 40A and you get 125km range.
