I'm not sure what you mean by "themes" but I do remember the first modern thing I remember from the show was the new fangled "
horseless
carriage" when the carpetbaggers started arriving when the war was over. Is that the sort of thing you are talking about?

Charlaine Harris has several series, I read the
Sookie Stackhouse series (Southern Vampires) and just started the Harper Connelly Series. I guess her books
kind of have a murder/mystery slant.

It's pretty bad and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. But in terms of
sex and violence there's nothing that most 12 year olds haven't seen on
TV. The sex scenes all take place after Edward and Bella are married and then they are always Bella and Edward kissing, and then the scene fading and skipping
the next morning. The birthing scene is fairly gorey but to be honest you can skip it completely ...

Number 3 always used to bug me, until I realised she wouldn't make it into Ravenclaw, she thinks with her heart, I mean how many times does she do stupid
things, just to help out Harry and Ron? A Ravenclaw wouldn't do that.
