General Motors will announce that it's working with one of the largest advocacy organizations for the vision-impaired to find ways for the next-generation electric cars to make enough noise that pedestrians can hear them coming. http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/...ric-cars_N.htm

Delicious can be used to import bookmarks from one computer to another. I don't use it much anymore, since I am pretty much exclusively on my laptop as opposed to my desktop.

The Internet Archive and more than 20 Web companies are banding together to preserve the historical records of the abbreviated Internet addresses that are passed around on services such as Twitter. Services such as Bit.ly and TinyURL allow consumers to convert a lengthy Web address into a miniaturized one. They have soared in popularity in recent years with the advent of Twitter, which limits users to 140 characters per post. Shortened links...

Well Johnny, strangely enough the dynamics of car advertising - reflecting the desire of the target audience - have changed. Whereas 20-30 years ago cars were sold on the basis of how fast they could go or accelerate to, mostly the manufacturers these days bang on about the safety features for both occupants and anyone you might hit. Dull bastards.

Adblock plus seems to stop my BtYahoo mail from sending mail. At least, I couldn't send anything, and then could when I disabled it. Is that common and/or expected?

I don't know how it works there, but all providers here offer a limited range from all the phones on the market. We do have a chain called Carphone Warehouse that offers new unlocked phones (legitimately) but otherwise you are generally stuck with what the service provider wants to offer.
Voice dialling is a function of the phone - not the service provider. Admittedly the service provider ...

Nasa scientists have produced the most compelling evidence yet that bacterial life exists on Mars.
It showed that microscopic worm-like structures found in a Martian meteorite that hit the Earth 13,000 years ago are almost certainly fossilised bacteria. The so-called bio-morphs are embedded beneath the surface layers of the rock, suggesting that they were already present when the meteorite ...

Most traffic news is now generated by reporters on the ground monitoring police reports, live highway cameras, and data from ground sensors that can detect traffic speed and tips from drivers.
Reporters can be hundreds of miles away away from the scene and detail the latest traffic jams to three or four radio stations in the same hour, sometimes using aliases.

The debates often take place on barstools and can devolve into a bleary tedium: If Babe Ruth were alive today, would he still be among the greatest to have ever played baseball?
Such what-ifs are no longer limited to happy hour and disrupted by last call. In recent years, statisticians have created time machines to answer a wide range of historical hypotheticals, from how today's Supreme ...
